Right click on the unknown device and go to properties. From there go to Details and what does the Device Instance ID say.
Also are you not able to install from the device manager via plug n play drivers?
When I go to install the Lilliput software / drivers for my car PC I get the error:
So then the touchscreen doesn't work... When I go into Device Manager it shows:
I'm not sure what the "unknown device" is but I don't think it's related to this issue. The "USB Device" under "Mice...." is the touchscreen and I have no idea why it's being loaded under there..
I've tried removing that from the device manager but get "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer."
No idea what to do here..
Any ideas?
Thanks

I'll check that..
No, I'm not able to install from device manager.. When I try to update the drivers in DM and point it to the Lilli's it gives that same error.![]()

This may help...
I recently redid my CarPC because I got a SSD.. Well in bench I installed all the drivers to all my devices, including the Lilli but the Lilli wasn't connected at the time.. I didn't get that error when I did this on bench..

Oh ok, that unknown device could have something to do wtih that preventing it from installing. The device instance ID format should look something like this
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_1673
The items you want to retrieve would be 14E4 1673
From there you want to google that and it should give you more info as to what exactly it is.

Oh ok, well let's see if we can get the unknown device installed first. That would at least eliminate it from being the problem if you're still having issues with the install. It looks like that item is a system device anyway. Here is an excerpt I found from the following thread that seems to solve the unknown device problem. Ignore the fact that the folder says win2000 but I'm assuming you're running XP.

It's a ATK0110 APCI Util used for changing the fsb and multiplier under
windows for AI Booster.
Here is how you fix it. this fix works on all Asus A8N-SLI Motherboards,
Basic and Deluxe Versions regardless of bios versions and is for Windows x64
build 1289 onwards. I am running build 1433 RC2 and this still work aok.
Insert your motherboard driver cd or download the latest AI Booster from
Asus.
Browse the cd and goto \software\aibooster\acpi64 and copy the win2000
folder to your desktop.
Open the win2000 folder on your desktop and open the file ATK2000.ini with
Notepad.
Look for this
[Manufacturer]
%ATK%=ATK
[ATK]
%DeviceDesc1%=DriverInstall,ACPI\ATK0110
and change it to this (bold text is only to show you what you have to
change)
[Manufacturer]
%ATK%=ATK,NTamd64
[ATK.NTamd64]
%DeviceDesc1%=DriverInstall,ACPI\ATK0110
Save the file and then go to the unknown device in device manager and manual
update the driver pointing it to the win2000 directory on your desktop.
There is no need to install the AIBooster software if you aren't going to
use it.
If you attempted to run AIBooster previously it would have errored during
the install of the APCI driver but it will install now aok and run fine.
Drivers now have to be assigned in this way as from build 1289. This mod
will probably work with other drivers that you found that worked on previous
build versions but don't work on the new build version.
That's it done.
Good luck.

Also, have you tried the touchkit drivers?
The ASUS site actually had a driver download for that ACPI device.. I downloaded and installed it and the unknown device is gone now.. Still have the issue though.
I get the same error when trying the touchkit drivers.. ARGH!

That's really weird man. What's the exact error message when you try to update from the device manager?
Are you running XP Sp3? Also, you might try updating the windows installer service from windows update -- I would try going into your services and restarting the Windows Installer Service as well. I'm just shooting from the hip at this point but it's hard to tell if this is a problem with your board or the actual touchscreen. I'd try plugging it in to a few different usb slots. Make sure it's not plugged into a usb hub or anything.
