What is the Difference between the Lilliput EBY701 and the GL629?

I get asked this question at least 10 times a week and the answer is surprising. There is NO DIFFERENCE between the hardware inside of the 2 models. Yes the button board in the 629 is longer and the plastic housing is a different shape, but the touch panel, LCD panel, and control board are identical. Not a little bit different, but identical! In my book that makes them the same thing. Unless you like the way the 629 looks over the 701 keep your money in your pocket and get the 701. The performance will be identical.
This does not apply to the new DVI version of the 629 only the standard VGA based model. There is no DVI based 701 on the market at this point.
This does apply to all 2008 and 2009 monitors that are LED backlight.

Thanks for the input, while I already have the 629 and love it this is great info for those new to the hobby or looking at new screens. I took mine out of the case and built it into my dash so it looks like I'm not missing out on anything and the savings is nice.

there is a black round plug you can see in the second and third picture, that black round plug is vga and usb, a special cable is supplied with the screen that goes from that special round connector to a vga and separate usb connector.

Interesting. Lilliput website claims EBY701 contrast ratio to be 200:1; while the 629 to be 500:1. If it's the same panel, maybe they're "overclocking" the 629 a bit? I sent them an e-mail and let's see what their explanation is.

lol, how do you overclock a contrast ratio? The specs for the EBY701 and GL629 are routinely misprinted all over the place. For example, the brightness is usually advertised to be 400 cd/m2, but if you look at the specs for the CCFL panel, its only 300 cd/m2 and the LED backlit panel is even lower at 250 cd/m2.

heh, I know, right? I just said it tong-in-cheek, but sometimes the difference (panel/monitor) is explained by the touchscreen layer. The touchscreen monitor should always have less contrast/brightness than the regular monitor (with the same panel), right?
