700TSV touchscreen stops working after ~30mins

I have a 700TSV that I bought about 1 1/2 years ago and after about 30 minutes, the touchscreen just stops responding (still in device manager & no "ding" about device disconnected). My workaround was to buy a touchpad from Fry's but maybe you guys know why this has happened?

I've searched and searched but could only find one post about some kind of USB timeout setting in WinXP SP2. That didn't work.

For about ~30 minutes it works perfectly but just stops all of a sudden. The USB GPS still works so I know the USB bus should be fine.

I just did a fresh install of XP PRO SP2 and the same results. It's kind of weird that it works for 30 minutes and then just stops. And if I restart or hibernate/resume it usually works again but for only ~30 minutes then stops again.

I have an Intel G201gly w/ WinXP Pro SP2, 512MB RAM, 80GB SATA, 700TSV, BU-353 GPS & M3-ATX PSU. No CD/DVD drive, no wifi, no keyboard & no USB hub.

    Any ideas guys?

    Thanks.

This has been happening since you bought it? You should have perhaps replaced it? After the fresh install what driver did you use? The one from Xenarc website? There's also drivers at the manufacturer website here.

If not, what has changed? If nothing, maybe it's hardware failure, maybe you could buy another TS (~$70 I'm afraid)?

Have you installed in the dash? Maybe it's close to the A/C ducts vents, running hot in the winter?

If it's not in the dash, maybe some internal heat issues, after 30min, something is triggering this. Have you try plugging and unplugging it, perhaps to a different usb port?

This started happening probably about 6 months ago. I used the driver that came on the CD in the box. Usually I find a driver that works then I stick with it even if new ones come out. I will try the newest one tonight.

Nothing has changed. I haven't touched my setup in my car at all for about a year. I was thinking it might be the controller?

I have it installed in the dash of my '06 350Z. It is right between the vents in the motorized cubby. I don't use my heater really. I originally thought because it was summer time that the heat was killing it but now that its winter it's still dying out.

I have tryied switching USB ports and still nothing. Maybe I should see if the issue is resolved if I cycle power? Is the TS/controller powered though the USB?

Please try the latest driver and see if that make any difference. The touchscreen controller in the unit that you have is powered through the monitor, not the USB. You can try to cycle the power and see what happens. Also, open Touchkit and see if the controller is still listed in there when it stopped working. The more information you provide, the easier we can help you trouble shoot. You can always send the monitor in for warranty repair if it's still under warranty. Otherwise, a new 5-wire resistive USB touch controller is $65 shipped if all else failed.

I will try the newer drivers tonight or this weekend. When the touchscreen stops responding it is still present in Touchkit. I will also try cycling power to the monitor as well. Not sure if it's under warranty any more. What is the warranty? I was told that if I open the case that I have only 30 days warranty. Oh, and I think it's closer to about ~15 mintues after power up that it stops responding.

first, from my experience, do these 3 steps.
    1) make sure your TS is plugged into a usb port directly, no hub..
    2) check the touchscreen ribbon and make sure it is not loose from the controller, no "ding" will be heard
    3) follow my tag at bottom on touchscreen fix for software which has same problem as you describe for fixing your issue FROM REGISTRY...

    Thanks for the replies.

My touchscreen is plugged directly into the motherboard. I don't even have any hubs plugged into my setup. I tried the timeout thing that is in your sig. Tracker and it didn't work. Maybe I missed one? I think I changed about 5 different entries in my registry. I haven't tried it since i reinstalled the OS thou but I did try it on the last install of the OS.

That driver that you point to RipplingHurst is like 4 years old. Is that the right driver to be using? What does everyone else use?

Also, I'm not doubting the touchscreen cable because I can even be parked and it will stop working. I will try all the other stuff that doesn't require me ripping my dash apart and if that doesn't work then I will look at that cable.

Warranty is 18 months. If the case is opened up, then you get 30 days. But regardless, you are always welcome to send your unit in for a free inspection. We use EETI controllers. You can go to http://www.eeti.com.tw for the latest drivers.
