Looking for good mount point in 2007 Rav4

I am starting a new carpc project in my girlfriend's car. I made the mistake of making my last project too complicated, and this time around I want to keep the OEM head unit, which has an aux in, and use a netbook in the glove box hooked up to an lcd for gps, internet, mp3, etc.

Attached is a photo of the dash. I'm thinking of putting a pop-out lcd in the cubby hole, however I really don't want to modify the dash or cut it up or anything. I really like the prices of the new USB monitors, however they don't pop out like the in-dash units. The problem with a pop-out unit is that it may not pop out enough to allow the screen to tilt back and be readable by the driver. Again, my focus here is to make it trouble free and reliable. Thanks for your input.

Have you thought about the overhead console? (that's what I did to my FX, see my signature). That would be one way to not even touch your dash.

On that cubby hole, not sure if you could angle it up so that it would be really visible for the driver without losing the cup holders. If the monitor you're going to use are not sunlight readable, crazy expensive transflective monitors, then it should be as close to your eyes as possible, and if you could turn them or tilt to your point of view, even better.

Thanks, I looked at your worklog and I like where you put your monitor. I would rather not cut anything up, but perhaps I can mount it IN the sunglasses tray. Looks like your setup turned out really well.

It looks like it might just work! It would be ideal because then I could hide it out of sight when not in use.

Glad to help. Check on ebay for your overhead console, you might get one cheap and feel freer to mod it.

In any case, get your measurements right and start planning! Good luck with your install! (don't forget to post pics!).

Just so your aware dont cut the middle piece with the little indentation if you want less work; that holds it in place for the push lock. Just sayin, you might still have to do some cutting up. Ive got a rav4 as well (2006 basicaly same thing) and I was going to put one in the dash and mabye 2 spread out in the drive area ie left side will be a moniter for gps and another one to be able to keep my eye on the road better while driving (and main dash to just mess around with) My thoughts where they could be push down/folding moniters so when you dont want to be btohered by them they are out of the way then voila; they are there if you need it.

Edit: On the right driver side between the silver and black interior there is a crack/ tiny opening/break in fabric or what not (its late at night >.<) that you can run wires threw if you wished to mount it. on the left side there is either a crack or I was going to mabye drill a second touch screen. If im able to tommorow ill take pictures wich will probably help ya better.

Edit 2: (sorry but I dont want to spam a ton of posts) Don't do the cup holder idea. The day you put something over it is the day you are going to use it. If you have a gps system try placeing it there and drive around for a day. I managed to get a large slurpy from 7/11 moments after I thought it seemed like a good idea... yea.
