Hi
Don't post a lot but have been reading avidly!
I got a 12.1" tft screen as a replacement screen for a compaq presario laptop I was fixing - now the laptop has died on me so I've not got a nice tft panel and invertor and basically everything I can strip out the laptop....
Can I wire this up to and use it for a in car screen? I'm planning to integrate it into a boot install - not an on dash one (basically for showing off purposes.... is it gonna be possible to wire it up so I can plug it into the pc video card?
Can it be done... or am I dreaming and should just put it ebay.....![]()

This question is asked a lot here and everybody is a little tired![]()
Here is the same question (few posts down): Compaq Aero Screen
In short - it is possible to do what you want but maybe a little challenging. The laptop LCD screen works from a controller that is built into the laptops motherboard. This means that it will not work without being connected to a laptop. The challenging part comes in when you'll start looking for a controller that will work with the screen. Do you know what brand/model # of LCD panel that's in your laptop? Find out and start searching for a data sheet that will have all the details about the panel. Then you will need to find a controller.
This is not going to be easy but possible if you're persistent. Most people abandon this idea and get something that already works. Give it a try![]()

I Got Vga To Tft Controller's Back
That's going to be your cheapest route. Make sure you find a datasheet for your lcd before you spend any money on it.
