Thread: 1020TSV LED backlit monitor, what about replacing LEDS to increase brightness?

if i had to guess though... id say your asking the equivalent or "something for nothing". leds produce a given amount of light with a given amount of current. sooo seems like if you took the brightest leds u could find and placed them in the same ol' circuit you would get the same brightness, or worse...

just a guess though...

Light bulbs for the household are run all by the same voltage (120) and burn at different brightness depending on their wattage rating.... I wonder how the LED's in the 1020TSV work, if it's on similar principles or by voltage. I know some LEDs will shine different colors based on input voltage. I'm sure voltage can be used to change their brightness but 1) is that the only way and 2) Is that the way Xenarc did it... In any case I would not even be opposed to an isolated panel of LEDs and soldering a pair of wires to them all wired in parallel and then out the back of the unit, and having an externally mounted variable resistor with an external power source of voltage.

This would be great - just for the cost of the bright LEDs you could have a sunlight readable 10.2inch touch screen. As the size goes up those types of screens get incredibly expensive.

Well, no LED's will change colour according to the voltage applied. LED's are current-driven, and the current trough them equals the light output. Simple as that. LED's have a max current and thermal properties mean you need to heatsink them at some point to avoid overheating them.

Putting in more powerfull LED's mean you need to modify the driving circuit to supply more current, but you can easily substitute with your own circuit.

I only changed mine out because it was an old CCF backlight, but with LEDs the amount of light can be increased by increasing the number of LEDs. Twice as many = twice as bright. It can also be increased with more efficient LEDs such as 20 CREE XP-G S2 LEDs and lots of heatsinks. LOL But seriously what they use is going to be decent.
