    character display

I can't find a dang thing on wiring up a character led to a serial cable. Would it be different for every character led that I buy? I was looking for one at www.eio.com but really didn't find wiring to serial cable.

You usually can't wire up a serial cable directly to a character display directly. You usually need something like a PIC or another simple microprocessor to receive the serial data, buffer it and then send it as parallel data to your display.

It is better to buy a unit with serial functionality already built in. A bit more in cost, but worth it. I use a Matrix Orbital unit (see build pics in my sig) and built a plugin for OpenMobile (see this thread) to handle most of their character types.

    Cheers.
