Boss BV9990 7-Inch LCD Touchscreen?
Quick question for all you carputer experts.
Today (only), Amazon has the Boss BV9990 7-Inch LCD Touchscreen for $180 shipped.
Is this thing compatible as a PC or Mac carputer touchscreen?
I need to decide fairly quickly. I have both old windows laptops and a mac mini gathering dust, and would love to put them to good use.
Nope, no vga input.
Not worth it.
from what i can tell, it doesn't even have a aux video input..
on ebay, there are other units around $200 with a aux video input, along with the same features as the boss one you linked too(cd/dvd/ am/fm..)
here is the kicker--
to my knowledge, there are no commercially available flipout lcd touch screen monitors (other then lilliput, and xenarc) that have a vga input, or allow the touch screen to be mapped to a external device...
now, if you are dead-set on a unit like this, you can get a vga-to-composite converter that will get the computer to display on it... but the drawback is that the image quality will be affected-- due to the converter having to convert to a different video format.
you will also need to use a keypad, or a space navigator-like device to control computer functions-- there is no plug-n-play way to get the touch screen to work with the computer..
i am in the process of planning on using a unit like this as a secondary display, but would not recommend them as a primary display unless you are on a very tight budget, or really don't want a lillie/xenarc solution, or already have a unit like this...
Thanks for the feedback.
I decided against this unit.
I'm a deal hound by heart, but this thing was missing too many features for me to jump. My POV is...if this is $180, what can I get for $300? And shoot, Droid tablets are getting there and they are portable.
Soundman 98- what part of N. Michigan/IN? My wife is from that area (about 30 miles from South Bend). I'm from Texas, but when we're up there, I see 'Michianna' a lot on TV.
i am roughly within a hour of chicago.. i live on the illinois side of the border, but my job, and my money mostly go to the indiana side...
Revo.sys have a unit, very bright, just add a computer... maybe a bit more expensive than you are prepared for but.
do you have any experience with this unit at all?

but in reality, this xenarc is a little over 400. if the extra $100 buys a reliable product, it is well worth it imo..
