Another LED backlight idea

found these from seeedstudio and was wonderin if any one has played with these yet.

dimensions = about 120mm X 10mm, but it seems like this may be a really easy way to toss the CCFL tube in regular ol backlighting.

If only it was a bit longer...but it looks like it could work. Might get a bit of uneven lighting at the sides since this is shorter than a standard cfl for a 7" screen. Not really a drop in replacement as this strip is a bit wider, but with some minor modding it could work.

this would be great for smaller lcd's, but really wouldn't work well with 6" or larger screens-- even if you were to use 2 end-to-end, the spots between them would be too large-- so the high/low areas would def. be noticable.

right now, it seems that smd led's are best to use-- they are a pain to use and setup, but can be placed much closer, so there is more even light dispersion across the entire display, and are really not limited to a certain sized display..

I have put an inquiry in to Seeed Depot regarding this 3W light bar. If I get the information I need, I may order a couple of these up to see how well it works in the LCD backlight application. I will let you know if I do.

i may join you in ordering them. not only try on lcds but i got other ideas as well. if thinkin 4 or 6 of them.

if they are really as bright as they appear to be, one on each side of a lcd may work... but we will see...

Agreed. My lilliput is the LED version to begin with. I plan on using the on board LED strip in conjunction with an additional source. I think I can get it done with two strips plus the original.

Well I got the information I was looking for and it was positive. They have a very quick customer service. My only problem at this point is shipping. I know they are in China so who knows how long that will take. I also get freaked out when the sites say "you should be ready to pay all taxes and customs fees on your package". What the heck does that mean?? Anyone have any experience with this?

Ok so looks like shipping is 3 dollars...and I would get them somewhere between 10 and 30 days. Man that doesn't sit well with me. I can go UPS for...30 to 75 bucks on top of the price of the strips. So a 17 dollar item with 50 bucks shipping...hmm. I think I am going a different route. I have another supplier with a decent product I am going to test out.

Let me know if anyone tries these strips from Seeed.

thats odd. it sounds like they are coming from china. but the chinese website says 1000 pcs minimal order. i wonder if seeed studio is based outa china? or maybe they have a warehouse there?

at any rate i may include these in my next order-a-thon from them and i'll sub. to your thread so i dont forget to let yall know how they turn out
