im a new member here to the forum but a long time subscriber and im working on a carputer for my 1997 ford f150 my question is where do i get the 12v power for my screen there is a ciggarate lighter plug that came with my screen but i would like to use another source and it looks like the cig lighter tht came with the screen has some sort of filter do i use this filter and connect it to the factory stereo 12v?also i have the M4-ATX but it didnt arrive yet is there a way i could connect my monitor to the M4-ATX
It's not important but if you use it with the filter is better for reduce some noise ....
oh cool thanks for your help one more stupid question there are two wires in the ciggarage lighter which one is positive and which one is negative
The center pin of the cigarette lighter is the positive and the outer collar is the negative.
A multimeter is an invaluable tool when working on electronics (especially when solving problems like polarity etc). I'd pick an inexpensive one up at radio shack or somewhere like that.
I just ripped my dash apart and it is going to be too hard to use the cigarette lighter for power for my lilliput. I was thinking about powering off the pre-existing plug for my stock head unit. I used a multi meter and get a 12.34V out of it. I was wondering if this was a good or bad idea to just solder the lilliput wires to the stock radio power lines.
The 12.34V was in accessory mode. When I turned the car over it went up to 14.32V, which the cigarette lighter did as well. Is it safe to assume it is a good place to get power from? I do have the filter that mp3car sends with the monitor

that is how i am powering my monitor--just make sure you use the 'egg' to filter the power a little.
