best in-dash motorized touch screen solution

    Hello all,

It's been some time since I've been active, and I'm just wondering what's currently good out there for motorized touchscreens. I've had two Lilliputs in my time (one 7" that had the touchscreen die, one in-dash motorized that had gears repeatedly break). That being said, I think I may be done with Lilliputs. Are Xenarcs still good? Did that Alpine solution ever get worked out? It would be really great to have a nice, reliable, motorized in-dash solution that is actually stylish ... but perhaps this is too much to ask!

    TIA!

    not really...

the lilli's still have the gear issue, and the xenarcs still have the issue with the video ribbon cable leading to the display breaking..

there is a new display from revosys.com that has metal gears, but i haven't seen any reviews on it yet though...

    Hi,

Just joined as I'm looking to set up a snazzy carputer and I'm hoping to get a decent motorized in-dash screen to front it...

I've found a website selling the Lilliput ones with a note that they're now with "hard-wearing metal gears" - do you know if they still have gear issues?

I've also come across one that doesn't seem to have been mentioned here before:

    http://www.parkmyauto.co.uk/kenwood-...uner-614-p.asp

    Anyone have experience with that?

Space-wise, one of these would be Very Good for my '02 Punto (which has just 1DIN, and that's at the very top of the dash with air vents below), but I want something that's a reasonable quality - and price doesn't seem to guarantee that, given that the Xenarc ones are more expensive and get even worse reviews than the lilliput ones, according to my reading.

So, any thoughts on the kenwood? Do metal-gear lilliputs suffer? Is there /anything/ that's robust? If not, are there alternative screens that might work in an '02 punto?

while i do not use a motorized screen, i believe that the metal gears should resolve all the issues with the lilliput screen(except for sunlight readability...)-- though you might need to wait for someone else that has experience with them to verify..

the kenwood will not accept a vga input, and does not have touchscreen that can be connected to the computer. there is a rgb input that might work, but would take some time to figure out how to send the data, and what wires to use to get it to work..

Bump ... and I think I may give Lilliput one more try. While I was living in LA, I dropped in to try to get some parts, but they were unable to oblige -- they tried, but informed me the internals had been reengineered. I'm hoping the metal is what they were talking about.

Now to find the cheapest US etailer carrying it.....

you can still still metal gears, when some idiot grabs the screen and tries to manually move it.

they may have engineered them to deal with this now.

    good luck
