    4:3 vs 16:9...

I'm looking for a 10" to 12" screen, and my final decision is whether to go with a 4:3 or a 16:9 screen. I have made a short list of options for each type. A 16:9 would look better, in my opinion, with the way it is being installed (in a 2007 BMW X3). That isn't enough to convince me yet, though. For those of you with such monitors, why did you choose the aspect ratio you have? Can you think of any real advantages or disadvantages to your choice?

Thanks guys. Hopefully I'll be able to finally pick a monitor after this.

FYI - the widescreen monitors that are commonly used (such as the 7" Lilliput and Xenarc models, as well as other no-name 7" models) are not 16:9 aspect ratio.
They are a 10:6 aspect ratio with an optimal resolution of 800x480.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye on the actual aspect ratio of the monitors I look at.

Any comments or opinions on whether to go with a 4:3 or widescreen monitor?

i prefer widescreen monitors, mostly because in most cases, installing something wider is less of a issue then installing something taller.

and there is also more screen real estate with a larger screen monitor, that can make pressing buttons easier, depending on how the buttons your pressing are designed..

In my position, it will be just as easy to install a widescreen monitor as for a non-widescreen monitor, but I do see your point.

I think what I'll do is take a shot of the frontend I'm developing, print it, and put that on a piece of cardboard the dimensions of both screens. I'll put it in the basic position in the car and see how it feels.

    Thanks for your thoughts.
