Thread: Capacitive touchscreens?

Not sure yet, but thanks. I know that screen is a great screen, but with the upgrades you've made, how does it compare to you best Lilliput bonded high bright you mentioned above? A bit worse, about the same or better?

I really like something better than 80/80/80 viewing angles, although it's better than my 30/30/30 on my el cheapo Xenarc 700TSV.

Any chance of you getting your hands on an AFFS+ screen, only in 10.4? Like this one. A screen like that, with the proper backlight (no need to save battery once it's out of the tablet) with a capacitive touch panel, is all that I need.


I know motion computing has a 10.4 AFFS+ screen, and it's been touted as the best screen ever for outdoor use, here, here and here (with video).

So...tft_lcd_org...how do they compare (your best Lili and the 10.4")? worse, the same or better?

I really can't compare the two, since they are entirely different setups.

The Lilli has a 450nit LCD with factory installed enhanced films, with a bonded capacitive touch screen.

The 10.4" features an XGA panel that has been placed on a custom made light box. The box was made by xxxxxx. (Sorry, trade secret).

It also has an upgraded film stack. But, @ 1400nits (manufacturer, pre-touch rating) the brightness easily overcomes any issues that are cleared up by bonding with the Lili monitor.

If you need RCA video, reverse cam, remote, and a name brand on your gear, then buy the Lilli.

If you need brightness over added features and have the room, consider the 10.4" as the better choice.

Each one has strong points, and some would say each has their downfalls.

I personally would go with 10.4" just for the size, but then again I would install a 22" screen in my dash if I didn't need the HVAC and cup holders in my van.

Either way, you would be buying a modified, quality display that will serve you well in your vehicle.

Thank you. It's very tempting - specially because it's a boe-hydis panel..., but for my application I would need to build an enclosure for it, and one as thin as possible - I'm custom building a vesa mount and it would be "hovering" over my center console, so the back would be exposed etc. If I go that route I would probably buy a broken 10.4 rear entertainment screen or something like that and use the case. But the controller would be inside the console, 4ft away, as I indicated in a previous email.

I don't need reverse cam or RCA input or anything like that, just dvi or hdmi.

Actually, Multi-touch in a car makes perfect sense.
Much easier to swipe across the screen to move from one page to the next on items like play lists and maps, or to change stereo controls, etc etc.

When it comes right down to it, doesn't the whole PC in a car thing seem somewhat "stupid and very dangerous" based on your assessment of a Multi-Touch screen??

Swiping across the screen or next on items like a play list do not require multitouch.

What's more dangerous, pinch to zoom, or trying to read something small while driving?

I don't even see how having maps/GPS in a car is worthwhile without multi touch.

I think perhaps you've been using the wrong GPS software? I never have to touch mine while I'm driving, and in fact if you make a habit of playing with yours.... well I hope I don't encounter you on the road
