    Review: Action 10.4" LCD

This fully featured lcd was well worth $400. I bought it off ebay from user: awgon. I waited forever to get this baby. Shipping took forever cuz UPS doesn't deliver sundays or on memorial day (the next day). I've already told you about the features here: The best 10.4" TFT LCD here
    Let's start with measurements:
    • 4.8lbs
    • Temp: 32F - 95F
    • Panel: 10.4" TFT LCD, 0.264mm pixel inch
    • 13.5"X10.5"X6.25" (WxHxD)
    • display size: H:211.2mm V: 158.4mm
    • VGA 75mhz max (thought my monitor was broken when i had the wrong settings)

Power Management: Uses 20wats max uses 5watts when under Stand By, Suspend , or OFF

Someone asked if it has a built in antennea. no you have to buy an antennea that goes into the RF

Supports VGA TV AV S-Vid DVD-Port sources. The DVD-Port is weird its not an s-vid input. It has a few more pins than svid. I plugged my ATI "Purple Box" adapter in which has s-vid comp vid and a/v. But it didn't work. The instruction book says its for an action DVD player. There is no video out

The stand is not height adjustable which is hard because fitting a vga cable takes patience. It does have swivel adjust and the base is small. The Stand is attached by 4 phillips head screws and also has mounting holes (they think of everything).

The max desktop resolution is 640x480 VGA and 800x600 svga. VGA picture is perfect with a very wide viewing angle. But when it comes to s-video, you have to sit across the room to see it. Yes you can adjust the brightness and contrast in the OCD menu, but you cant do anything with the backlight. I don't know anything about NITs but i can say this is too bright for S-Video. There is barely a viewing angle under s-vid. This is the only thing that urks me.

Compatable with NTSC, PAL, SECAm, BGHI (never heard of)

Speakers are 2watts (who cares). I think the speakers were added at the last minute cuz the people at Action didn't think it had enough features. I could live with out them - would take off a few inches. Comes with TWO headphone jacks (got enough features?) and SKR out.

Something that striked me just now is that the in/outputs aren't flush in the holes. You can see in the picture they're not centered. To me thats a sign of poor craftsmenship. You probably don't care.

This LCD is best viewed at night, especially when using s-video. As i always do, i'll invest in anti-glare/scratch resistant film. Your an idiot if you dont. $3 to save from scratches.

Bonuses: Comes with car adapter and remote. I never had an lcd with a remote (wow a new toy). Also has ac adapter. The manual is very thorough. There are a bunch of OSD menus depending on what source you use. I comes with all the cables you need. Thats good cuz there's like a grand total of $30 worth of cables.

Also says DDC1, DDC2B. I have know clue what this means but i'm very interested.

Funny Notes: In the book some accessories in the list say "(option)" next to it including that this package may not come with that accessory. Next to "AC Power Cord" someone cut out and glued on a piece of paper that says "(option)". The cover says "Crystal Clear Audio", its not.

Useless Feautres I Like: It clearly tells you the propper way to clean an lcd. (there's the right way or the dangerous way). They use standard screws for the stand. This never heard of (foriegn?) company has a 1 year warranty & 90 day free labor charge.

As soon as i get my bluetooth dongle from ebay for my new NOKIA3650 camera phone, i'll post pics.

I would review my nokia, but i cant get it out of my hand. One feature i will mention (cuz you can apply it to carputing), with the bluetooth dongle, you can stream any video (dvd, Carputer) to the phone. It can be used as a wireless bluetooth modem...

    ok stop with the reviews

    (edit: ok 2 features)

Churnopol, the monitor is not touchscreen is it? Just wondering how I could protect my Xenarc TS from scratches (and even anti-reflective glare if poss) as I was thinking the film would severly hamper my touchscreen capability - any ideas?

No its not a touchscreen. But you can protect a touchscreen. At my work, we are not allowed to take off the plastic sheets off the POS's. I either use vinyl or just tape an overhead projector sheet over the lcd.

Yup, read the first sentence. This is not just for carputing, thats why i love it. If it's still too expensive, try to look for Norcent monitors ($200 for a 14"). Finding a spot in the car is hard though. I'm mounting it on a couple plastic dowels cuz the mounting holes are just like the ones in a picture frame.

No you have to sit far back to get a good view for s-vid. Since it's only 10.4", sitting far back would make you squint your eyes too much

Can you measure the LCD screen? I'm trying to determine whether this will fit in my dash.
