How do I connect laptop monitor to another pc?

I got a hp laptop dv9000 and it's good for nothing but parts. I want to keep the screen, so is there anyway to connect it to a desktop? Or make it vga?

Short answer: No.

Long answer:

If you can find a controller board compatible with that screen (They run between $50-$500), then it is remotely possible that you can hook it up and run it, but you will likely have to re-solder all those wires onto a new connection if it's a non standard connection that it uses. You're better off buying a screen with VGA input.

The connector on that plug is DV-9000 only.

The connector in the other end in the LCD panel is pretty standard 30-pins Single channel LVDS. You need a pretty expensive controller board to convert DVI or VGA to control this panel, and the controller needs to be programmed to support this particularly LCD-panel.

Not worth doing if you ask me. A desktop monitor is cheaper and has better viewing angles and brightness...

agreed, but many times, laptop monitors are thinner, and are easier to adapt for in-car use..

The harddrive, RAM and Webcam (standard USB interface) can be re-used.

The optical drive can be used with an adaptor.

It's not difficult at all if you are willing to put in the work. This is the controller you need: http://cgi.ebay.com/5451-Audio-LCD-C...item4157253058
Just email them the model number of your screen (top right corner of the screen) and they will program the timing. Then you cut off the end that connects to the motherboard and solder it to the cable they sent you. Read this post on how I built mine. http://www.mp3car.com/lcd-display/10...-lp150x04.html

Remember, that connector is not only supplying the LVDS but also the Backlight inverter in the monitor.

And the small coaxial or triaxial cable there's in this HP cable is next to impossible to strip and solder onto, so i'd suggest getting another cable with a 30 pin LVDS connector and some humane wires (that you can solder to) and plug that straight into the LCD panel....
