Yes, this is exactly the way we want to go. But it needs to develop a software to set the color, so not just the LED

The gutting of that flipout unit is for the premade structure. If they simply added say, ribbon connections, I could easily acquire ribbons for the extension.

You are right, if the flip out structure is not pre-made. It is not easy to get a smooth and trouble-free unit

I see elsewhere in this thread it is a 260 nit display. IMO that's way too dim for use in a car with sun hitting the screen.

Really for this to be the "ultimate car PC" display, it needs a 600 - 700 nit brightness with a button to cycle through a variable backlight level to make it suitable for night use.

Yes, 260 nit won`t made a ultimate display, but it is acceptable, especially when adding a little shade

We all know 600~700 nit screen will be the bast, the problem is, cost will become very very high...

The aux and USB ports a pretty close together to be able to use both at the same time.

The distance of Aux and USB ports are fix now. they won`t be too close anymore.

We tried to make simple dots before, but consider this screen sometimes operate by the passenger, not the driver. When we have some icons, it will be easier to say "hey, press the cross to show the map for me". lol

Do you have the final dimensions now? For some reason, (may be the photography angle), I still get a feel that the bottom-rear lip is a bit too long to fit some vehicles.

Also did you try plugging an Aux Cable? Looks a bit too close to the edge and the aux cable shell might interfere with the vehicle console edges.

Now we are waiting for the final confirm about the capacitive screen. it delays a little bit. Plus, there is a 3~5 days holiday in China in April. We hope to have them available in around a month

There will be two version, capacitive or resistive. Another option is a full computer integrated. Here is the final dimension, the outer dims never change:


The Aux port, is already touch the edge of the screen, so we can not move it on horizontal way anymore. We will figure out something, or maybe put in a short extend cable which have a small "head".

Regarding to the enclosure only. Sure, this project is a team work by everybody here. We will sell it alone to friends who ordered the screen before. There is no reason to ask people pay for a LCD panel which they have already

EDIT: After looking at the Rev B pics again maybe my newbie-ness is shining through. Is the DD kit just some brackets that allow you to mount the screen into a vehicle specific DD kit like you would with any DD stereo unit? If that is the case then disregard my comments above.

Other than that I am really interested in this screen and waiting on it to be released before beginning my first CarPC build.
