Hi everyone
Great thread! I just bought this kit and now waiting for it to be delivered...
So my question is: I am currently writing my own custom mp3 player to go with it and to Derrick, I was just wonder how can I read the button board as I don't have it yet to see how it works... I downloaded your usb_hid_new.rar and looked inside and it seems you simply map the new buttons to a standard keyboard, as in when you click a button, it sends a message to windows via the key linked to it. If so, then I gather all i need to do is map the buttons to any key I choose then run your utility and match the keys to the buttons for the board? If this is so, then great, easy to implement
Thanks and hope this all works out for me without too many hitches... :P
Andrew.
Hi guys,
Does anyone have any tips when mounting the left hand circuit board for the buttons? Each way I try either bends the circuit board, makes the lcd panel loose, or one of the buttons won't depress properly.
Cheers,
James

I just took my button panel off, then back on and found it real fiddly to get aligned. What I had to do was to screw the top and bottom to the last 1mm of screw travel, then slowly turn the top screw in till I can just feel the switch start to click. Next I turned the bottom screw in till the second to top would click, and started wiggling the trhird button till it clicked, turning the bottom screw a small amount more, and wiggling again.
Eventually I got them all to click, then I tightened the top a bit more, and then the bottom again, test clicking them all.
What is happening is the tiny surface mount button's rubber part has to be centered perfectly on the buttons shaft. If it is slightly off center, the button won't press. Wiggling as you attempt to click is KEY to success. I don't want to do it again but my button panel needs replacement due to not being able to program BLUE buttons, and the mapping of my buttons is upside down, where whatever I program to the second to top button is mapped to the second to bottom and vice versa. Since the top button is power, it renders the bottom button unprogramable.
Thank Rray,
I'll have to give that a shot!
Cheers,
James

does anybody get problems when they connect the usb cable for the touchscreen to the computer? Mine almost seems like it shorts out when I plug it. Below is a test video. (video is uploading. will be done 3AM pacific time)
if you want cheap and good quality touchscreens check out this guy on ebay
or his own website
it took me a while but I found out that liliput orders their parts from this company.
I recently bought a 7" led backlit lcd with touch for 60 dollars.
I know its china based but what doesn't come from china these days.
just a thought for those in search of a decent screen , it comes in parts so no housing , personally don't have a problem with that.
you can see my solution to that in my worklog.

If the plug on the left buttons board is the same, maybe you can try to swap the left buttons cable with the touchscreen pointer cable to see if it's in the cable. Also, you can unplug the cable from the screen, try an meter to buzz the 4 pins to look for a short.
Mine works fine by the way. I tested with the USB plug, then cut that off and connected to motherboard header.
- Did you try plugging it in while the other side of the cable is not connected to the lcd pcb (ie, disconnect the while connector). If it still turns off then its in the cable, otherwise its most likely the lcd pcb (or touchscreen itself).
- Did you try it with an external USB hub?
- check with an DMM if any of the pins on the white connector has a short to another pin on the connector or power supply ground
- do the screen and the pc use the same ground?
Good suggestion. I couldn't figure out where the short was by the 4 wires that connect to the lcd board and a meter. I started by depinning the cable plug and then testing all the pins for continuity. Nothing would buzz. My meter couldn't really fit close enough to test the usb plug side so I couldn't test that side.
What I did find was that after unplugging the cable from the lcd board and plugging it alone (usb cable disconnected from lcd board) into the computer, the computer still shutoff which narrows down the issue to the USB cable itself. So my summary is that my USB cable is shorting. Any way I can get another cable Derrick?
