There are several options for sunlight-readable displays that utilize true transflective displays. The title of this Thread has transflective in quotes and the screen is actually a TMR (Transmissive with Micro Reflective) screen, which is less expensive and apparently not as visible in bright sun. The transflective screens from the MP3Car Store start at $650 and go up from there. You can find other options starting around $400 on the net, but not sure of their readability. I asked the questions earlier in the hopes of finding a good screen that doesn't cost more than the rest of my carputer, including amps and speakers!!

I guess the search continues. I think I may give this screen a whirl either way, as it appears to be better than the 5-year old, broken, single-din, POS screen I have now. I was hoping to mount it set back a little in a double din mount and provide a little shade. At these prices, not too much to lose, especially when compared to $650+.

I have a post somewhere comparing my $600 transflective screen to a $200 BlackBerry PlayBook screen. I really don't see how the $650 screens are worth it. Sure they're better than the standard screens, but you're paying a significant premium.

Yeah well the one derrick sells is very average for the car environment, and as I work all day driving I find the screen inadequate at most times on a bright sunny day. Especially when you sit like half a metre to the side of the screen and wearing sunglasses makes it very hard to read anything on the screen unless you go through a tunnel or in the shade.

I have looked into those $600+ screens from here and they do sound promising, I am just worried that after buying one of these, the results may be only a slight improvement. Unless someone who has one of these can tell me that it does make a big enough difference, it seems impossible to find a screen good enough for the car environment.

I know it's around $650+ for the 669 and i have no problems spending that much money on it, but only if it's a major improvement over this current one I am using...

Since people running the HDMI version are provided valid EDID, maybe someone could post the EDID (I think powerstrip can do that) and maybe I could reverse them to actual timing information.

Did you get a response on this, i'm still trying to get my VGA model working properly as well.
I have a feeling there are different versions of the VGA board as well which seems to confuse matters.

Anyone who has the HDMI model, are you able to help us poor VGA folk out?

Nope, no answer so far.
I even contacted Derrick, who told me he contacted the factory (apparently he doesn't physically possess the device).
It's been almost 3 weeks now, no answers.
Derrick also sent me an alternative driver that try to guess the correct timing. Of course it guess is wrong and the image on the scrren is misplaced and washed out.

So far I'm headed for a negative feedback on Ebay.

What OS are you using? Can you see the screen during bootup at all? If you can then it likely is due to video card drivers. If you can then your video card is simply not compatible with the screen.

I'm using the screen with my Win8 build on a HTPC in my car and it works fine. I connect via VGA since I use HDMI for android input.

I'm using W7 on a D510MO cpu/motherboard combo. It has an Intel video chipset (GMA3150), which I found out is problematic.
However, I managed to force Windows to use a hand-written DTD.
Now I need a DTD that match the screen, tried a couple that I googled out, tweak them, even tried to match the specs of the screen(for what I can understand) ...... without much success.
There MUST be a valid DTD for this screen/resolution combo since it's the native res.

From my understanding the interface of the HDMI version provides the correct EDID to the computer.
I'm trying to obtain the EDID it's providing, convert it into actual DTD value and test it with the VGA version.
On paper, that could work.

So, no one with an HDMI version and Powerstrip installed?
That should take a couple of minutes at worst.

For all who's interested. I've managed to set the native 800x480 resolution on this monitor with using Raspberry Pi. Here are the basic instructions:

- First, you need to update the firmware of your Pi to the latest using rpi-update.
- Add the the following in /boot/config.txt:


hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_cvt 800 480 60

- Reboot. This should do it. If you get a blank screen, try adding the following as well:

config_hdmi_boost=4

Allright, I'm giving up on this screen.
After one month of waiting I gave Derrick the negative feedback he deserve.
Thing is he can't give support on the product because he don't even have the product.
What he sells come directly from China, he actually never see what he's selling, and don't even keep a single model with him.
Otherwise he could have answered my simple question in a couple of minutes.
Basically he just forward you request to some guy in China who never replies you.
Way to go Derrick, way to go.
