so go buy a LILI OR XENARC for double the price and it will be as you said, worse. lol? Your complaning about a cheaper product with slightly better performance? Sunlight, no matter what, will always be an issue for car screens. The best way to prevent the issue is to somehow position them in a way in which they are shaded. This is how lots of OEM screens are done. IE. Mazda 3/6 etc.
Anyway, how do people power their screens generally? off the PSU for the computer? Lame question i know, but no matter what i search on this forum i cant be sure what is current information, theres so much here
Yesturday I got the Capacitive version of this screen and spent all day putting it into my frame. I ended up having to use the extension cables I bought from digikey to fit it into my frame. The extension cables were a pretty tight fit, but with some sanding of both the ribbon cable and the LCD screen cable it will fit. The 6 pin was a lot easier to fit the the 40pin was.
Today I spent all day putting my new ASrock e350m1/USB3 motherboard into my carpc and reformatting the hard drive. Screen looks good, its very bright and much sharper then my old screen was. I didnt get a chance to test it out in the sunlight yet though.
I am using the HDMI out on my motherboard to feed into this screen. However I didn't realize that for 90% of the boot process the HDMI out is disabled. As well as anytime you are in DOS, such as when installing windows. I had to plug another display into the DVI port so I could reformat the hard drive.
However two problems I have with it.
1) When its booting, even though there should be no output to the HDMI port, it will do this weird color shift where it will glow red, then slowly change to glowing white, then will turn black again before it starts showing windows. This always happens when, on the DVI screen, it says "Starting windows" (This is on Windows 7) with the twirling colored orbs that form the windows logo. Really dont like this. This is probably not the screens fault, but does anyone have suggestions on a fix?
2) In an effort to get to the elusive 800x480 resolution I first tried installing the latest drivers for my onboard ATI 6310 but the lowest it could go was 800x600. So I installed powerstrip and with that was able to set the display to output 800x480. But even at 800x480 the screen does not fill the LCD viewing area, There is a 1" black bar above and below the image and the left side appears cutoff a tiny bit. This is throwing off all my touchscreen presses because it is basing it off the 7" screen size and so I have to imagine the screen fills the whole LCD and where the button should be located and press there. I cannot find any resolutions that fill the whole LCD viewing area, although several are closer then 800x480. I also checked the OSD of the LCD to see if I could expand the screen vertically to make it fit, but that option was not available, I could only move the screen, not shrink/expand it. Any Help??

I am letting people know not to get their hopes up thinking this is a solution to a cheap sunlight readable screen , when it is not.
And no it is not always an issue. I have a Mo-Co-So 7" sunlight readable that I can view in direct sunlight easily. I have an Inelmatic 7" sunlight readable that is viewable in direct sunlight. I have a 10.4" Avionics that is viewable easily in direct sunlight.
It is possible. It needs to be transflective , high brightness and have an optically bonded touchscreen with antiglare. It's just going to cost you.
I don't think it is possible. Or at least I don't like the screens that is meant to be transreflective. The best ones are used in the ATM banking and to me, they are still not readable at direct sunlight. I actually never seen any 'readable' screen at direct sunlight. So this is not my hope and the word 'readable' is something relative.
It's not really a matter of opinion.
All 3 screens I have are completely and totally readable in direct sunlight. I paid $700 for the Mo-Co-So , $580 for the Avionics and $580 for the Inelmatic.
I am assuming you have not bought a transflective , optically bonded, high brightness, ag touchscreen have you?
You get what you pay for.
And I work on automobiles at 14 car lots. There are several car manufacturers that have sunlight readable near perfect touchscreens now. The Dodge Challenger I fixed this week has an awesome 8" that I would sell a firstborn to have in my car. It is beautiful from all angles in all sunlight.
