Yes, if no signal to the monitor. it will remain off (sleep mode). when a 12V signal come from your reverse system to the trigger. It will auto on and switch to AV1

You don`t have to turn it on and off.

The LCD supports auto-on and will use the same video input as when it last had power
The LCD draws max 2A, so it depends on the power source for your camera.

If I were you, this is what I would do:

Wire your backup camera power to your reverse lights. They don't draw enough power to strain that circuit
Also wire your switched +12V on your LCD to the reverse lights. This doesn't draw power, this only tells the LCD it's time to power on. You should be able to find a lead for this up front, but if not, you will have to run a wire from the reverse light all the way to the front for the camera.
Wire your LCD power to a stronger circuit (like radio), or run your own lead wire to battery.

Also, for your bezel prototype, what is the distance from the front of the bezel to the LCD itself? Some OEMs create shade by "pushing" the LCD further in, and some even have trim along the top to block sunlight from the screen. This could be useful for some customers, even if you have it a separate optional item to use that clips in if needed.

the distance is about 1cm. We can not make it deeper or it won`t fit some cars. Maybe we should build a removable shade outside?

Question, with the capacitive multi-touch. Since it works with fingers, it is hard to reach the edge because of the deep bezel (finger is bigger than tips). Will that be a problem? Or we should provide a stylus?

Help! opinions require urgently, because we are about to finish the capacitive panel order

I know of at least 3 cars where this distance is a problem. If more, it will hit the climate control unit and 2DIN wont fit. But as long it is within 2-4 mm of a 2DIN unit spec, it should be alright.

That's a good feature. However, if the level of dimming can be configured through the menu, it would be great but even otherwise, it is a well thought out addition.. Thanks Ken Homma!

BTW, the Engineering Sample looks really nice!
Regarding the reachability to the screen edges, its not a major problem since most well designed CarPC front-ends have good sized button and they are usually away from the edges. You could include a capacitive touch stylus for purists though but I guess its use would be very limited in a car except when setting up.

What color are the backlit buttons? I'm thinking they're probably green. If so can you post information on the smd size of the leds? For my insall i'd like all the lights to be red and I have no problem using my smd solder solder station to change them, i just need to know the physical size of the leds.

I would recommend a removable shade. It should be pretty cheap to have a clip-on piece of plastic that can go along the top.

I personally would not use a stylus in vehicle. It's not practical and you will just lose it...
