I know of at least 3 cars where this distance is a problem. If more, it will hit the climate control unit and 2DIN wont fit. But as long it is within 2-4 mm of a 2DIN unit spec, it should be alright.

That's a good feature. However, if the level of dimming can be configured through the menu, it would be great but even otherwise, it is a well thought out addition.. Thanks Ken Homma!

BTW, the Engineering Sample looks really nice!
Regarding the reachability to the screen edges, its not a major problem since most well designed CarPC front-ends have good sized button and they are usually away from the edges. You could include a capacitive touch stylus for purists though but I guess its use would be very limited in a car except when setting up.
    Thanks for your reply

the bottom distance is about 7.5MM, we are working hard to make it shorter.

Also, we shorten the case on both sides, now they will be flat, and only the bottom have distance.

Mic is added. Rubber cover for USB and SD CARD slot added.

The double din version will come out first. If this project works good. A single din assembly will come out

Good questions. We just about to ask, regarding customizable buttons backlit color. Is WHITE works? We plan to put white LED in the back to light them up

I personally would not use a stylus in vehicle. It's not practical and you will just lose it...
The problem is, if you can not reach the edge of the panel, what can you do?

I made a mistake yesterday. the "button" beside the SD slot, actually it is a HEADPHONE jack. It can not be centered because it already touch the edge of the screen

    Why a headphone jack?

For the LED's can you do a color changing LED so we can make it match our interior lights? red/blue/green/white. Also please don't make them TOO bright! Or at least make it so they dim with the display or something.

I quickly scanned through this. But in a response to this question, I would think most people are running a CarPC software that is more finger friends when actually driving. Not being able to reach the corners when running the bare OS shouldn't be a problem if people are using portable keyboard/mouse combo. Cause let's face it, if you are using the bare OS in your car, you are probably developing something for it to work better and you are going to want a keyboard/mouse. A stylus should be used in this design by default.

I think a flush design would have been better, but I'm sure that was answered somewhere in this monstrous thread.

here is the new design about the auto dims

Once the headlight trigger (12V) get signal, it will auto reduce to 60% brightness. When you touch any button, it will temporary increase to full brightness. After your finger left the buttons, 2 secs, it will reduce back to 60%.

    any opinions?

Got it, let us see what we can do about the LED

headphone jack is because there is a audio out port on the board. maybe we should change to AUX IN?
