"Transflective" LCD panel with res touch+controler for $101+$36 S+H

So I was doing some research for my headrest/2nd zone control and I'm thinking of buying these Samsung panels:

    LMS700KF07-004 (datasheet?)

Here: ebay listing. Seller apparently in Hong Kong.

Nothing in the datasheet says anything about transflective, or sunlight viewing. But that's not essential for my application, I think. However, the pictures, specially the one side by side with the cell phone, is impressive. It's a TN screen, but Samsung have great screens.

However, I want those for my headrests/2nd zone. Maybe I could use this housing ($4.99 mp3car), buy a compatible shroud from Lilliput (hopefully) and easily cut my OEM Headrests and be done with it.

For less than $250 for two quality touch vga screens? Maybe their viewing angles are even better than my chep Xenarc in the FX and I could use more. That and a capacitive touch...hummm.

Ideally I would to have something like this, HDMI/DVI capable, accepting higher resolution as input (important, because I plan to use a big screen up front, higher than the std 1024x768, the max for cheap controllers). My MB drivers probably won't do dual monitor with two different resolutions, so if the secondary screen can down convert it, better. But at $150+SH each...

    What do you guys think?

I thought about buying one a few months ago. I thought about adding a capacitive multi-touch panel to it. ( I now have them in 7" )

The sunlight shot looked ok, but only 280 nit was kind of stopping me.

The good thing is the controller seems to support 800x480 input.

Still, 137.00 might be a decent deal.

Buy one and try it out! I'll send you a 701 shell for the cost of postage. I have a ***** load of them on a shelf taking up space.

EDIT: Ok,I just went and bought one.
I got the 85.00 one since I won't be using the touch screen.

I will post a nice, low quality you tube once I get it. (someone please point to a good, cheap camcorder)

Looks like an ok bit of kit.
Be keen to know thoughts if someone wants to try it
That is the sort of setup I need.

Well, I would take Samsung over most panels out there anyday. And you're right, tft_lcd, with shipping, it should be $137.

I'm going to see what enclosure it would fit in. You say 701? If it fits, I would take at least two, possily four, thanks! But I would also need them to have a headrest mount, gotta do some research to see if there's something like that for the 701, maybe it's the same as the 669?

Sweet. Does your phone have a camcorder?

Ya, but it sucks worse than the video function of my Minolta digi camera.

Here are 2 videos of 2 669's I converted to Multi-touch to give you an idea of how crappy my videos are LOL!

What you need for those videos is to take the camera out of the auto-mode. It goes crazy trying to focus your hand, than a bright white window opens and it tries to close the aperture to compensate.

It's better to use a brighter background (if you're going to open a white screen like MSPAint), and/or more indirect ambient light, and put everything over some white/light grey table cloth (loose the mat you're using now!)

Any tripod mounted capable camera should work fine. Even a cheap auto camera (like this one, HD for $50) should work fine with consistent indirect lighting, with "ebay kits" like this. I'd say keep the camera, buy the lightbox first and see the results.

Ah they could be worse Might be a bit hard to see light quality but some of the advice above should help that.

I have these screens; two of them; the one with TS (007) and the one without TS (006). They are TMR Screens and not truly transflective.
Their performance is sort of OK under bright sunlight and in fact much better than the Lilliputs by a good margin. The resistive TS clouds a bit but the TS is fortunately not very reflective.

I purchased it from a different seller around 6 months back but never got around installing them due to lack of enclosures.

IMHO the best bet would be the non-TS version and you can add a Capacitive Touch Panel. I've purchased the 3M Touch panel towards this but again never installed it due to lack of enclosure.

What are the prices like for a 3m touch panel and what would the advantage of doing that be?
For me to Australia from Hong Kong I can get the touch screen one for $AU140.13 = $AU 98.23 + $AU41.90 or without the controller board (assume still touchscreen layer) for $AU110.92 = $AU82.67 + $AU28.25
Could you get a 3M touch screen controller for $30? Or is there something I am missing?
