Mini Touch 700 doing my head in! Stupid 800x480

hi all,

let me just say i've always wanted to build a car pc, and have been doing my research for a while now, but i've come across a bit of a problem with it!

i can not for the life of me get the screen to output 800x480 properly! I've tried 2 different desktops and a laptop and whenever i 'force' the screen to display 800x480 all i get is a mess! Well not a bad mess, but its not the 1:1 pixel count that i wanted!

the chipsets i've tried so far include SiS Mirage graphics, Intel 4500MHD, and the new AMD Fusion (6310)

800x600 doesnt look too bad, but i thought they would be no problems getting 800x480 to work!

Even tried powerstrip but that doesnt seem to help either!

Any advice?

Simply: get a proper monitor - if you can find one

I have a Lilliput 629 and having the same issue. I have read through various forums and the conclusion was always the same... These (not even so) cheap Chinese monitors just can not handle their own native resolution properly.

I have a MiniTouch 700 and it displays 800x480 no problem on my intel d945gclf2. It aligned perfect just by using the auto adjust settings. I know its not any help, but 800x480 went smooth for me.

could you please do me a massive favour and install powerstrip, go into advanced timing options under display profiles and write down ALL the settings used in there, (about 12-15 settings)

Some of the cheap monitors scale 800x600 just fine. Circles remain circular. Have you tried running your frontend with the resolution at a standard 800x600 and seeing what it looks like? I never messed with custom resolutions since my super cheap monitor did well scaling it itself.

yeah i know 800x600 displays ok, but i'd like 800x480 if possible.....

m2x0p9x could you PLEASE install powerstrip (no its not porn!) and could you have a look under advanced timings and write down all the settings and post here?

Heres a list of Settings i need for the Mini touch 700 to get working at 800x480!

RAMDAC Pixel Clock:

Horizontal Geometry
Scan Rate:
Active:
Front Porch:
Sync width:
Back Porch:
Total:

Verticial Geometry
Active:
Front Porch:
Sync Width:
Back Porch:
Total:

With this information i should be able to get it working....

Maybe you can find out what kind of panel the monitor has, and google for it's spec. sheet. That should have the info you need.

I have working Linux modelines for this monitor, if that helps. I think these may be the numbers that you need.

Modeline "800x480" 31.746 800 864 944 1000 480 508 511 525 -hsync -vsync

Wikipedia lists the numbers as follows:
pclk hdisp hsyncstart hsyncend htotal vdisp vsyncstart vsyncend vtotal

thanks for the settings but didnt help! I'll keep on digging for more modes...
