What is the highest resolution 7" / 8" LCD on the market?

So I am thinking of upgrading my LCD in the car. There used to be days when $500+ was "normal" for an in-car LCD, so with prices dropping significantly in the last few years, that still kind of leaves that bracket open for "top of the line" LCDs.

I'm tired of using a 800x480 LCD - I know if my PC dies and I have to replace it, I will probably NOT be able to get 800x480 anymore. So I'm curious if there's anything more hi-res that has been developed recently. I can't find anything on Lilliput or Xenarc - anybody know of any other brands? Or are we forever stuck with the same panel? I've been with 800x480 for ... 7 years now. Enough.

Hmm. Very interesting. LVDS isn't too useful for me I guess, since I don't know how to wire into that directly - wonder if there are any consumer level products for this though?
