Multi - Touch Capacitive Touchpanel with HID Controller + "Gesture Controlled Ouputs"

If your looking for a capacitive multi-touch without the driver issues, and a bit more functionality.. Look no further.

For a while I have always wanted to be able to use my touch screen to trigger an action before my PC booted up! ie, enter a "virtual" pin on my screen and have it start my car just like the WRX external keypad. Wanting to keep things simple, there was no way I was going to add a keypad to my dash. Also I didn't want to wait for my PC to startup before I could start my car! I thought I have a touchscreen already here, so why not use that!

So the only way for this to be possible was to have some "smarts" inside the actual touchscreen controller.

What is it?
It's a Multi-touch Capacitive panel with USB controller board that requires no drivers, and has customizable gesture based outputs for PC/PC-less operation.

It will work on all operating systems without the hassles of trying to get drivers to work with unsupported operating systems. So all you need to do is plug it into your PC and it will "just work".

This can used as a replacement of your existing resistive touch panel, or to add Capacitive touch to a non-touch LCD.

Besides operating as just a controller, the board has capability of activating on-board outputs based on specific multi-touch finger gestures as shown below.

You will be able to assign these multi-touch (2-finger) gestures to activate any of the (8) on board outputs.

Because these gestures are intercepted by the controller, the outputs can be activated without the need of the PC to be on. So for example, if you enable "keypad security mode" you can get into you car, enter a combination on the touchpanel and have it turn you immobiliser off,start your PC or Car etc.

For critical gestures that should not be available while the car is running, there are (2) automotive signal inputs available for disabling any critical gestures from working while in motion. An example of this is a boot/hood release.

Here is the custom cut tempered glass with the capacitive touch panel fixed behind that will give you a perfectly flush panel. The black trim is printed on the reverse side to give you that tablet/ipad look.

The custom tempered glass panel and capacitive touch panel are crystal clear for increased optical clarity, that will visibly increase the brightness of any resistive touchscreen monitor.

At the moment only one touch is projected to the PC, two touches get bypassed and are reserved for gesture outputs. Pinch zoom in/out not yet supported though will be implemented in future. (I know its cool to pinch zoom when changing lanes while driving!)


Current Specifications:

• 16:9 aspect ratio (Lilliput is 4:3), 88x151mm (active area), 102x168mm (Tempered glass panel)
• Up to 2 fingers can be simultaneously detected. Up to (5) are possible.
• Can be USB only, or 12v only powered, or both. So you don't even need an LCD to use the gesture outputs.
• PC will see the controller as a standard HID input device so there will be no gesture driver conflicts.
• Right click is supported.
• Can be used in a non-car environment to increase functionality of other systems.

The firmware is basically complete and fully functional, for any extra requests or features please comment.

That sounds pretty innovative.. Don't suppose you want to add a simillar size driver board :D
Also why is the input 15V would it make more sense to be 12V in a car..?

Thanks, Unfortunately LCD drivers boards aren't that small yet...

What I meant about 15v is it's actually a 2-15v input, so any voltage between 2 and 15v can be accepted which eliminates the need for voltage conversion. :)

I didn't understand the part where you mentioned "capacitive touch panel behind the custom cut tempered glass". Are there 2 layers of glass before the LCD?

When would you think this will be open for purchase and what is the cost?

Also will different sizes for the capacitive touch overlay be available in future?

If you look at any capacitive smartphone screen, you will notice the glass that you are touching is not the physical touchscreen. Touchscreens alone aren't made with that nice black frame around it.

I guess depending on how you mount the touch panel the black trim wont matter. Then again tempered glass is stronger than the actual touchscreen, and doesn't shatter like standard glass.

So the tempered glass in front is safer, stronger and more appealing than just a touchscreen on its own.

The tempered glass and touchscreen are bonded together so you don't need to worry about assembling it.

The current size I have is 7" other sizes will be available but a bit later on.

These are currently in production and should be available within 3 weeks. In regards to pricing the final price is not confirmed, but if there is enough interest I'm willing to offer limited pre-orders at a discounted price of $89.

So how did you get a keypad displayed on the screen if the pc wasnt running? You still had to have something driving your LCD with software running displaying an image of the keypad? Also what is the Width and Height of the panel shown above with the black overlay attatched?

Ahhh, the numbers 1,2,3,4 that you see on the above pics are virtual numbers I guess. You don't actually see them :) You just imagine they are there I and you roughly touch in those 1,2,3,4 regions. When the Blue LED flashes quickly, this will tell you that you are in "keypad mode" just so you don't get confused.

The black trim is 7mm on the 3 narrow sides, and about 10mm on the wider side.

I realized that the images above arnt of the actuall screen, lol. When you said keypad, I was picturing a regular keypad, not just the screen divided up into 4 squares. Whats the mesurement of the entire panel with the overlay, not just the black parts themselves. How big is the whole thing from left to right, top to bottom? I have a standard double din opening, I want to see what kinda gaps are going to be left between the screen and the dash.

Keypads ain't keypads :)
Ok, I edited the full dimensions (under specifications).
That's what I'd like to see, this panel mounted in a double DIN slot without a double DIN frame!. I'm sure it will look really nice if done right. If you have a gap, let me know and I could probably make up a thin flat black glossy frame to complement it nicely.

Either way, let me know what the exact dimensions of you opening is, it can be any shape. i.e not necessary a perfect rectangle.

Ah got you, sorry I read it as 2x 15V inputs as there were two.. oops
So do you sell the glass already bonded to a monitor? or do we have to do that ourselves.. and supply our own monitor?
I am also interested in the size as I need it to be a tad smaller than my double din spot.
