I did a search, didnt find exactly what I was looking for, so I'll just ask. I would like to get a DD with GPS, DVD, BT, etc. that has a touchscreen in the 6-7" range and build it into my console. I then want to get a touchscreen in the 9-10" range and install this in my dash. My question is; Can I somehow wire the big TS into the head unit so I can use either/or to control the head unit? How would I go about it? Which larger TS would work the best to try and do this?
Thanks for your help.
^ that summarizes it well.
in more lengthy terms, you would need to decode how the dd unit uses the current ts, then determine what ts type it uses. then you need to figure out what wires the unit uses to 'talk' to the touch screen. and then you will need to tie into those wires before the t/s controller, but after the t/s-- expect to need to solder to a very small ribbon cable that has around 0.5mm pitch.
after that you would need to build a controller to convert what the aftermarket ts does into the signal that the hu understands. if it uses a resistive screen, you would need to program a very precise point map so that both touch screen signals have the same resistance across the entire screen-- all t/s's have a different linear resistive ratings, so this would need to be taken into account..
basically, i would expect this to take at least 1-2 years for someone with very good electronics experience, and is really not a easy project for someone new to the game.
