The laptop booted fine before the mod .. and now it POSTs .. pauses right after it detects the HD, RAM, etc ... then goes into Windows... Don't think any other connections will have done this.

If I unplug the new cable I've made from the mobo it boots up regular speed ... nice and fast. I can tell from all the HDD activity. So weird.

Oddly enough, the battery on the laptop doesn't seem to work anymore either. It used to hold a small charge, but now it doesn't hold any. Just happened suddenly .. think maybe something on the mobo is doing this?

    Thanks..

Same here. Would love to be able to offer assistance, but best I could manage was the foil shielding that got you this far. I know that can make a difference, because a guy at work used it to repair a 21" CRT because a thief had cut the cable clean off when they broke into the office, stole the base unit, but left everything else.

Replace the battery. When the computer first boots up, the BIOS detects all the settings (com ports etc etc), then boots. The battery is there to keep the information in a chip called the CMOS so the next time you boot all the settings are there. Dead battery = computer has to redetect each time, thus some lag.

Thats also why it boots fast when you do a straight restart, no power down.

As for booting quick when LCD is unpluged... take a multi meter and test the battery when the lcd is plugged in and not plugged in. Maybe something funky is going on...

Thats all I can think of ATM.

I don't believe the CMOS battery is dead.. just the regular laptop battery. I doubt this would have the same effect. I've also noticed that if the system is warm, but I'm still doing a 'cold boot' .. (not a restart) that it'll lag, but for not as long as when it's a cold systme (hasn't been on for a while)..
