800x600 extends beyond screen - how to achieve this?

Weird request. I have an intel atom board and this display. For the life of me I am unable to use 800x480 resolution. I have developed a touch GUI using autoit that sends commands in the background to foobar. The GUI is 800x480. At some point my resolution was set to 800x600 in winxp and it was extending beyond the edges of the screen. Almost like it wasn't shrinking the desktop to fit the display. I couldn't scroll the around the desktop and I couldn't see the start menu, taskbar or clock. But it looked great since it was a pixel accurate view. And since my GUI is 800x480 it took up the whole screen anyway, so I didn't need to see the whole desktop. So it was a great setup.

However, for some reason it is shrinking the desktop to fit the display now. I can't get it to go back to how it was. Does anyone know how to do this? Using power strip or display settings in control panel or whatever. Again, most people don't want this to happen, but I do for pixel accurate view purposes.

What's preventing you from using the native resolution of the display in the first place? That seems like the problem you should be seeking a solution for. Current drivers for video devices from both nVidia and AMD/ATI have full support for creating custom resolutions, do you not have similar options available? Power Strip is practically obsolete with the options available in modern video drivers, but if your drivers don't have these options you can still use it to set the correct resolution rather than relying on panning. Usually enabling desktop panning requires drivers with that capability, had you done any hardware or driver updates before this changed? I'm not familiar with Intel Atom, I'm assuming you're using an integrated video chipset and Intel graphics drivers?

I just can't get the native resolution to display properly. It looks like crap and I can't get it to be pixel accurate. I've tried everything. I couldn't get it to work on my zotac board either. I am aware of nvidia chipsets having the capability to create custom resolutions. I tried this with my zotac board, along with all kinds of settings in powerstrip and could never get it to work. I scoured google for an answer to no avail. No I hadn't done any hardware or driver updates. It really wasn't a panning option... like i said I couldn't pan right or down to see the rest of the screen (start menu, taskbar) but it didn't matter since my gui took up the visible 800x480 portion anyway. Thank you for your reply.

One thing I haven't tried since switching to the intel board is downloading the driver for 800x480 from cartft.com. Doing so now.

It worked!

I achieved 800x480 on the intel board using the driver from cartft.com

Now to figure out why my m2atx won't stay on with the intel board. :( powers on for a few seconds then shuts off.
