Here are some pics to show where I am. As I understand it, I can just stretch fleece from inside the wood frame and hot glue it to the audio bezel to cover the gap, and then add fiberglass resin and mat. Is this all correct?

hmmm... thats a pretty small gap that you are working with... shouldnt be that hard to do.
one thing to consider. if you are attaching the fleace to the plastic bezel, you may want to epoxy it to the inside lip of the double din opening. i say this because if you hot glue it, it might not be strong enough, and if you glue it to the front of the bezel, you will have to sand the crap out of it to get it to look right.
now that i have seen the progress you have been making, i have another route that you may want to take...
instead of using fiberglass, you may want to build up the height difference between the wood and the plastic with thin strips of wood, kind of a stair-case of wood strips to make the transition, and then cover it with bondo or something similar. then you can sand or file the bondo smooth. the neat thing about this approach, is that you can make the whold lcd monting piece seperate of the dash bezel. if you are careful with your work, you can probably get a good fit, with just a minimal break in the surface between the dash bezel and the lcd mount.
plus, if you want to get rid of the screen someday, you wont have to buy a new bezel for the car.
also, think about embedding screws or bolts in the wood part, so that they are sticking out the back of the wood. this will give you a solid point to mount the screen onto.

Excelent Work! Just make sure that you sand it very smooth and get a good coat of paint on it. Looks Great!

Looking smooth. Wish I had the dash space for that. Supid 2K3 redesign.

Now I have a couple of questions. My next planned step is to add Bondo filler to smooth it all out. This is what I should do, right? If so, do I need to sand down the fiberglass any before adding the Bondo? Also, I kind of scratched up a little of the woodgrain on my audio panel near the fiberglass. Would it be OK to extend the Bondo filler to cover up this area?
no sand, just add bondo
extend bondo.. probably be fine
