Looking for an adaptor

Hi All,

I'm trying to find out if there is an adaptor to convert directly from the LCD screen feed on the factory screen in the car to say RCA or similar. I've done a google search as well as a search here and can't find anything. Any tips on where to look or what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

what part of the world are you from? and what vehicle ?

Hi, I'm in the uk and the car is a range rover, the same screen is in the BMW X5 if that helps.

What I would like to know, is are the screen connections standardised or are they different from manufacturer to manufacturer? I.e. would an adaptor of the type that I'm looking for work for a range rover as well as say an Audi?

I suggest looking at online resources that are geared toward your vehicle.
Try looking up tech documents first, then try owners' forums.

Every OEM uses their own standards for display, so you'll have to dig up what is used in your specific vehicle.

Thank you for that, I'm a member of a very good owners forum however I haven't had any joy there yet, nor with searching the web for technical documentation. My next step will be to get in touch with Alpine who it appears make the unit. At least there is an Alpine part number on it.

I'm just not sure if there is a converter to do what I want to do or not. I had an idea though and that would be (if possible) to use a TFT controller board in reverse. No idea if that would work but it would allow me to achieve what I want to if it does work.

If I have understood correctly, you want to get the original image on another display, isn't it? So you can switch between Carpc and factory navigation.

That's the idea, the only way I can think of getting the factory image onto another screen is to convert the connection to the TFT to another connection type such as to an RCA connection.

That is an idea I also had with my car some months ago.

But some navigation screens are not just a display but also perform some control/diagnostic tasks. In the specific case of BMW, I think the navi screen is actually just a display, but the video signal is digital (LVDS type). Transforming LVDS to CVBS (RCA) is a bit difficult and I don't think that there is any device like that in the market.

If you want to connect a carpc, you should probably get an interface like that http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/57...e_for_BMW.html and use the RGB input to connect a GPS box or PC.
