Thanks to Mpro's and Serio's guides, I modded up my Sony 5 inch PS1 screen to accept VGA.
The colors seem good, brightness is "ok". I'm still experimenting with different value resistors between green and sync to adjust it to my liking (Anything above 100ohm outputs too much green?). My problem is, its hard to read text below 15'ish font. Mpro's PICTURES of size 9 font are more readable.
The resistor values between sync and green only seem to effect brightness. Any ideas on how to clear the text up a little? Will changing any setting in Powerstrip help maybe?
Im using a Riva TnT2 which dosnt output Csync from what I can tell (box was greyed out in powerstrip). I know I have an old Ati Rage Pro laying around somewhere, Im going to test that for Csync and hope I can get a better signal if nothing else.
PIctures are below.

Do you think I might be able to mod this units rgb to receive
VGA?

The green wire hanging off was for a +5v line that wasnt needed.
I hooked up the ATI Rage Pro, which does infact support Csync. But I am unable to get custom timings in powerstrip!
Anyone have any ideas to clear up the picture or maybe how to get the Ati to run at 15hz?
what! my ati rage pro doesnt!! I just might have to try that again..
newer ati cards supports both custom and csync
Yep. Its an Ati Rage Pro AGP 2x. It supports Csync, but no custom resolutions under powerstrip.
From what I've found so far: There is a program called Rage3D Tweak which was made for radeon cards, but will work with rage 128's and some pro cards (I havnt tried it yet). But from what Ive read, it still wont produce 640x480@15hz, but will produce odd frequencies needed for HDTV or whatever they do with them.
I think my only choice with the rage card would be a registry tweak by hand, which I am not up to doing. I might try a mame emulator in dos that will put out correct frequency just to test my theory that I have a sync problem.
But anyhow, I hooked up the Tnt2 again, and have been playing around for hours. Still no progress. Need some ideas here....
i beleave that this is the same problem i had with my screen, i had composite sync and got a flickering image. i couldn't change the refresh rate using VNC either..
i was using a ATI rage pro ... PCI i think.
perhaps its time to learn about refresh rates and registry hacks

w000t, i got the pci version..
Small update incase anyone is interested in doing this.
I didnt hook it up in any mame programs in DOS. Instead a built a simple sync combiner:Details: . With this on my TnT2 card I achieved acceptable quality text to navigate in WIndows, which is hard to get with using composite or S-Video. So it looked better, but I still wasnt completely happy with it. Playing movies and Media Engine looked almost perfect though.
Turned out my friend had a Matrox G200 sitting in an old project box. Took 10 seconds to change the wiring to Csync, hooked it up. Powerstrip set to 640x480i.. As clear as my 19 inch at home, just really small![]()
Matrox cards go cheap on Ebay. PS1 screens can be had for a good price if you shop around, mine was $70 US with a complete PS1 unit. Not bad for the image quality on a 5 inch screen.
But I'm working on a 8.4inch VGA LCD with a touchscreen now![]()
