Yes, I knew the brightness wasn't as high as I would have liked when I bought it. That was the only spec that I wished were higher, but thought it was a good deal for a pretty high resolution screen with capacitative multitouch. I hadn't seen anywhere else that offered a better solution at the time so I took the jump. We'll see how it measures up in the car, but from sitting around with it on full brightness it looks pretty good.

I really wanted the resolution and multitouch. I'd be curious to see somewhere else do better for the price. This all came up because we've been having a hell of a time finding direct sources for the higher end touch screens every off the shelf device is getting these days. Perhaps it exists, but I havne't seen it. I also wonder if the LVDS controller that I got with this screen would be able to run other screens. I've seen others with the same 40 pin connector.
Computer is in the car, but in a very "raw" install right now.

Totally agree.its worth a try and really its going to be soo much better that anything else out there.the price is cheap and if somthing better turns up I will grab that too.but for now I believe this is as good as it gets...lvds is lvds right?might have to trim the voltage or add a board but for all the led backlit tablet derived panels I'm pretty sure it will work.

Has anyone ever tried to add extra backlight LED's to a panel? I wonder if packing in a bunch of white 5050 SMT's along the edges (lift the foil off the edge and insert LED) would work to increase brightness?

You know I bet someone out there has figured out how to add extra backlighting to panels. That's an interesting thought.

I don't think chalk-elecs LVDS board is specific to the different models they carry (the 7" and 10"). I wonder if you would even have to do that much to adapt it. That could be worth looking into.

i have been waiting for them to start shipping this for months now. so currently, the 10.1 is the only one availabe for purchase because of the LCD connector - correct? this is good because i need to do some serious measurement. i have a VW GTi - and i can fit a big *** display in landscape fairly easily due to the shape of the dash on the left\right side, but i want to make sure it wont look ridiclious.

i would love to fit the 10.1, but i might have to place and order for the 7 and wait. a 8~9" would have been perfect.

i look forward to your feedback on your testing results

what is that supposed to mean?

are you saying you can not get this to display anything via any hdmi input you feed to it? how do you know the touch works if there is no video feed? you can see the touch working on the other monitor? you tried this on a windows 7 or 8 computer with a video card that supports 1280x800? they said if the resolution was not supported it would display black - and you HAVE to push 1280x800 or it wont work.

did you try (on the computer) to manually change the resolution? does it need video drivers updated?
