    Touchscreen LCD Options

I am looking for a larger alternative to the 7 inch widescreen displays that seem to be so popular. Does anyone know of an affordable, good quality 8 inch widescreen, or a 9 or 10 inch 4:3 that I could use? I am trying to stay in the less than $500 price range. I want something that is pretty much all screen or that would allow me to move the controls and casing so it would be all screen.

Can Dscustoms get the new Xenarc 1040TS 10.4 inch touch screen? If so, how much? Also, have the people with the 7 inch widescreens found them to be bright enough and big enough to opperate?

I've been using my 7" touchscreen from DSCustoms for about a week now & don't have any complaints. Although I have no other screens to compare it to, I believe it could be slightly brighter, but it's never been to the point where it's unreadable. As far as size is concerned...if you're clicking on small things like the volume icon in the bottom right then you almost have to have a touchpen & it's a little difficult to do while driving. Regular desktop icons and start menu items are plenty big enough with the pen & take a little practice with your finger, but it's very possible. With programs like winamp(double size), media engine, & CoPilot the screen is easily used with your fingers.

Has anyone bought an inexpensive 10.4" LCD television with VGA and s-vid and all the other good connections and just added a touch panel and removed the internal speaker? I would think that the viewing angle and brightness of a screen that was intented to be a television would be better than one that was meant to be a monitor. Are the cheaper versions of these TVs just total crap or how bad can it be if it has at least 640x480 resolution.

Can you take the datalux one out of the casing so its just the 10.4" screen by itsekf and put the controller and buttons somewhere else, or do the buttons have to be on the side like that? Also, if I can get a cheap LCD TV with VGA and all the TV inputs and add touchscreen for the same price as the datalux, which would you think would be better?

I have to agree with that. I bought a composite console screen for cheapness when setting up. Wish I had save the 100GBP that it cost me, and found a 7"/8" VGA instead.
