Oculus Rift Development Kit: 1280x800 Display Diamond in the Rough?

So I have one of the prototype Rift development kits and just realized something. The display being used is a 7 inch 1280x800 panel wired to a remote box that accepts HDMI and DVI inputs + brightness/contrast controls. Doesn't that sound like the perfect thing to use in a build? The only thing missing is a capacitive touch panel, which would be easy to add if you didn't care about optical bonding. Thoughts/ideas?

I might do this once the consumer Rift comes out, seeing as the dev kits will immediately become obsolete.

Why? Is it cheaper than 7 inch 1280x800 N070ICG-LD1 + driver board?
