VIA EPIA with custom (16:9) resolution

I read that many people had problems with setting 16:9 screen resolutions with the EPIA MB using Windows XP. I have tried to set it up with 800x480 without success (even when using powerstrip).
I was just about to give up when I thought I will give a try to the WinXPe drivers (after all XPe is still XP). I was surprised to see that the driver for XPe has many more resolution options including 848x480 which works fine on my CRT.
I also noticed that 1280x768 which is 800*1.6x480*1.6 so I tried it with 160% custom DPI setting and it seems like it works great.

Since I don’t yet have my 7” Xenarc I don’t know how this works with my future LCD (it will be great if someone tries it…)

Hope this will be helpful, comments?

I am running these drivers with my M10000 and Xenarc 7".
Sure, 848x480 is closer, but it's still not exactly 800x480.

I suppose a lot of people won't care, it displays an image, it's good enough. I for one can't stand having a non pixel perfect image. With 48 extra pixels sqeeezed into the display, you can see subtle visual artifacts in certain places across the display where multiple pixels are aliased into one. You won't notice it much viewing pictures, but small text looks crappy in places.

powerstrip with this driver doesn't allow custom timings.

1st gen Xenarc that supports only VGA can display 848X480 with powerstrip perfectly. No artifacts anywhere.

2nd gen Xenarc that supports multi res has problem displaying 848X480. I see lots of very noticeable artifacts. Thats why I got rid of mine and stuck with the 1st gen Xenarc.

I also have a 1st gen xenarc. The problem is with the epiaM onboard video. The onboard vga chipset doesn't support custom res in powerstrip.

I have a workaround using a PCI ATI card that is supported in powerstrip. I would be nice to avoid using a separate video card to keep my case small though.

I have EPIA M10000. As I said I don't have my Xenarc yet, I was just trying to get the MB to display something that is close to native res. What about the 1280x768, did someone try it? My thinking is that since it is 1.6*x, 1.6*y it will be scaled great by the controller.

Well I got my Xenarc today and 1280x768 with 160% DPI scale is perfect! I just need to get the source of ME and allow for this resolution to work correctly.

So how do you get those XPe drivers to install? Windows won't let me--says the current ones are a better fit. Idiots from Redmond telling me what I can't do with my own computer... argh...
