    chalk-elec 10" LCD capacitive multi-touch

I've already got two of these that don't work. Sigh. I think it's my fault for not installing a resistor between to contacts when enabling power via USB. Anyways I need to get my hands on a replacement circuit card. It's the board you plug the cables into. Does anyone have one of these I can buy or maybe exchange for something else? http://images-cdn.ecwid.com/images/313017/244720816.jpg
    It's the squared card.

Just out of interest as I was looking at getting one of these displays:

I though these came with the resistor enabled for external power. If so, plugging in USB should do nothing. It's only a problem when you LEAVE the external supply resistor in line AND you install the USB supply resistor - IE both resistors installed is a problem, but that normally MAY damages the USB port on the PC, not the LCD?

Did they ever work? Have you contacted the supplier and priced a replacement board?

One of them arrived with a cracked display. They gave me the second one half off. (but I did have to pay full shipping)

The other stopped being recognized by computers as a monitor. plug in HDMI and nothing happens. The USB still send the touch signals though.
I think it's cause I didn't install the resistor, but I'm not sure. I took the circuit card from the first monitor with the cracked screen, but I hadn't thought about why the first one broke, so I also soldered with no resistor on the second one and it broke after a few minutes of operation.

Yeah I guess I didn't read carefully or the instructions were not clear enough for me. I should have removed the resistor and installed it in the contact for USB power, although the circuitry is so small I doubt I could do it. When I get a replacement I'll just power it from external power.

YEah the monitor was working for a couple days on USB power. one morning when I left it on over night it was black screen and never was detected as a monitor again. I've been in constant contact with Anthony over there at their support. His responses are kinda slow. I've already asked him about a replacement card twice and he has not given me an answer. I'll keep this updated with news.

Sounds more like poor quality control and not something you did, I'm wary of getting one now.

Thanks, look forward to any updates.

    Don't do it.

Absolutely horrendous customer service. Screen had the same problem as killDano(Unit stopped being recognized by my computer as a monitor.) so sent it back in early MARCH so they could "diagnose" it but haven't heard so much as a peep out them since. Not one email reply. They're a scam IMO. Stay far away don't waste your money.

Did you also enable USB power and leave the connection to the external power intact? Cause that's really my fault for not reading the instructions properly. Can't blame the monitor for that. it's not like this screen is marketed to average consumers; you're kinda expected to have tech skills, so I can't really blame them for not making it fool-proof.

    Update: email from Chalk-elec

    Hello Dan,
The R6 and R7 should not be soldered together. It has to be either one. R7 provides path directly to microcontroller that controls the USB power supply. When it is powered by the USB port, the max current will only goes up to 500mA. With R6 and R7 connection, the power adapter is flowing 2A max into the microcontroller which in this case, had fried it.
We do not provide one to one replacement in such case, sorry. We also do not sell individual converter board for this. However, we will do a one time deal with you for USD57/pcs. Shipping via DHL is USD17.04
If you accept it, then we can issue an official invoice to you.
By the way, the DHL complaint is still in progress.

    Regards,
    Andrew

So I'm getting them to ship the replacement board, and they are gonna hook me up with the proper USB power connection so I don't have to mess with that again.

Did you do the same thing I did by enabling USB power but not disabling the external power connection? Cause that is unequivocally my fault, and to put any blame on them is wrong. This not a product for average consumers and I'm expected to have the tech skills to follow simple instructions.

    Also re: Terrible customer service
I completely disagree. I've had some bad luck, but they have been responding and keeping me in the loop of things. HEre's the latest email regarding my original screen which arrived cracked cause DHL used it as a soccer ball.

(linked him some of my car PC pics)
    "Hey Dan,
It is really awesome and I like your work! Cool and keep it up!
By the way, I just got reply from DHL. They are unable to compensate for 100% but they offered USD78.00 . Since we really like your work, we will give you USD146.93 (full refund) for the display + accessories.
We will refund these amount to you by today.
    Cheers!

    Regards,
    Andrew"

So they are taking a $78 hit even though they don't have to. Also after a few exchanges I did indeed get them to ship me a replacement circuit card (even though they don't sell them individually) They could have just told me to buy 3rd screen. They even soldered the correct USB power connections for me on their end.
