Non-working touchscreen - USB Diagnostics tool?

I yesterday installed an Opus in my car PC (woo yay works great!), but at the same time my touchscreen appears to have stopped working. I suspect it's the panel (or rather the flimsy FFC to the panel) though I can't see any damage, the PC does see and recognize the USB controller.

I ordered the panel from US and I want to be sure whether it's the controller or panel that's knacked before sorting any replacement. I know there are diag. tools for serial touchscreen controllers, but can I get similar for USB? Or any other ways of testing what's broken? Don't really want to have to replace both!

    Cheers, Sy

Car changed for TVR Griffith 500, so computer de-installed. Using a Dension 100ix w/60Gb HD unit in the interim.

Okay, done a little more digging and now I could do with someone doing an experiment for me.

What I did was remove the touch panel, and place a multimeter across pins 1 and 3, and then pins 2 and 4 on the panel. Setting to measure resistance (in the 100s ohms range), I get a resistance reading between each of a few hundred ohms. This implies that there is an electrical path there and the tracks aren't broken as I thought.

When I press however this resistance doesn't change. Not 100% sure if that's exactly how it should work, but if someone could verify what happens on theirs I'd appreciate it. Help me to rule out which item is the problem.

    And hope for the best
