steering wheel touch screen monitor??

yeah, the airbags have wires, they have a setup with a little reel of wire, enough for a few turns of the wheel, some steering wheels have slip rings too.

I was just wondering what hwtc2002 was going to do to address this?

If you disassemble a steering wheel with any sort of wires in it (steering wheel controls, airbag, etc.) You'll find a "spiral cable" that winds tighter when the wheel is turned one way and more loose when it turns the other way. If you run out of factory wires it's not that difficult to dissasemble the unit and run more wires.

My 1986 Grand Am with no airbags and no cruple zones was fine. You see show cars that replace the steering wheel with billet wheels all the time. What's the problem?

I could see a sweet system where you basically have a large LCD mounted in the center of the dash, but a small touch LCD functioning as a "soft key" remote in the steering wheel.

yeah, that's the little reel I was talking about. What if your car has no airbags? Can you add that little reel? that could be a problem. also, when you start adding touchscreens and whatever that's more wires, how would you address that?

Installing shouldn't be a problem because what installer would put the cables so tight that a single turn would snap them.

are you suggesting to just leave slack in the wire and let it wrap around everything when the steering wheel is turned?

I don't know man.... I'm not taking my airbags out!

If I was actually contemplating it, however, I'd go to a junkyard and disassemble some steering columns. I imagine (but who knows... lol) that a GM from a '93 Grand Prix with the airbag and all the controls may fit an older GM, or could be modified to work.

Just leave a few inches of slack and it will be fine!

just make sure u got enuff slack.... or else youll end up riping the wires ...or not being able to turn all the way

having some type of 'reel' would be better... so the wires dont get tangled or messed up somehow...

I'm new here and this is like the second post I read, I thought these forums are here to HELP other people with what they want to do?

If somebody wants a screen in it's steering wheel, go right ahead!
You can point out the danger, but the decision is up to the guy or girl actually having it done!

Basic point: SAFETY FIRST if you're driving all the time. I'm really more worried about all these people on the phone all the time changing there CD while trying to roll a sigaret than a screen in the steering wheel!

Sorry, I know this is a odd way to enter a forum, but I'm on a lot of forums and it's supposed to be a place to get help and show you're idea to others for input!

Didn't try to attack anybody! sorry if I did, I know you guys are very knowledgable and I need some BIG help, just starting this touch screen stuff myself and starting at the bottom!
