It's pretty simple to open up, just 6 screws. 1 in each corner on the back, plus 2 on the bottom edge (tiiiiny little silver ones that hold the mounting bracket)

Once you are inside, it's 2 screws to hold the controller board on (along the bottom edge) and then the screen/touchscreen overlay is held down by 4 screws, 2 on either side, which have little metal "clips" that go over the edge of the screen.

The buttons can then come out, they just pull out from the back, or push them from the front.

Re-installation is opposite of pulling it apart Just make sure you line up the touchscreen overlay and actual lcd panel in the centre of the gap

I'm thinking of doing the same with my silver Lilliput screen. Opening it is really easy. I figured a can of black spray paint should work on the front and back housing, but how about the buttons ? The ones on the Lilliput are reverse silk-screened, the words are transparent and the buttons glow a cool blue when you press them. I could spray the buttons black and re-label them using Letraset adhesive lettering or similar, but I would lose the cool blue glow.

    Any other ideas ?

Use a primer designed for plastic parts. You definately DON'T want the paint to start flaking off.

Goto your paint shop and ask for plastic primer.

It shouldn't need any sanding, just make sure you give it a good clean, to get rid of any finger prints or anything else

Just go to local shop and ask for a can of plastic primer, brand won't matter much at all

I just painted my Lilliput black using nothing more than a can of Tamiya TS-14. This is a synthetic lacquer specially formulated for use on plastic. There is NO need to apply plastic primer as the monitor already contains a coat of silver colored paint.

The monitor looks really nice in black - and the buttons look good and match well in their original silver color.
