Anyone, anyone... Bueller?
I am in the middle of designing a few in-dash and pull-out/motorized DIN solutions for the 7" Lilliput Touchscreen LCD. Right now I am in the brainstorm phases but I would like to start playing around with ideas on 3D CAD software so I can work spatially (it's much easier to undo a mistake on the computer than with materials ).
Has anyone run across CAD Drawings for this screen (preferrably 3D)? Or, has someone been ambitious enough to draw them himself? Any leads are greatly appreciated. I have plenty of CAD experience, but I don't have the accurate measuring tools at my disposal... otherwise I'd draw it myself.
I'm more than willing to post my solutions online as CAD files or exported JPG's to help people with ideas. Probably much better than a scanned in sketch or quick Photoshop sketch.

but what do you plan to do with your designs? is this for yourself or for a commercial endeavor? Will you mount the lilliput with its housing or strip it out? How will you build the molds etc?
I am very interested in motorized vga screens and will be willing to help depending on what you plan to do so MORE INFO PLEASE........
I have a couple good ideas for fabricating a manual 1-DIN fold out for a VGA screen. The design (still just in my brain) would be easily modified for motorized extension and retraction. I would probably leave the LCD in its housing and use a mount.Originally Posted by A_C_K

I guess the overall basic design of the thing would be the same when using different LCD screens, just the way they were mounted to the unit would be different. This would probably be the best solution so i don't have to mold additional housings.
What software do you have? I could probably knock up a basic model in Solidworks (only have 98 version though), as I am thinking of something similar for my beemer. That will probably be in the air vent location though, and I'm trying to think of ways to route the air flow around it and having it looking stock when not in use. Like you I have ideas in my head but getting them to work in reality is always another matter
I think my lilliput is around 2-3mm wider than my head unit on each side though, so you may have to think about removing the housing. That would help in reducing the weight and stress on your mechanism, important for vibration, stability etc.
Yeah I just noticed that the casing on the Lilliput screen is slightly larger than the width of a 1-DIN slot. I was thinking my stock head was the same width as 1-DIN but it isnt. I'm probably going to end up removing it from the housing... which renders the need for a CAD drawing of the housing.Originally Posted by tekta

Tekta: I've just done some work on an install for my E46. Not sure what you'r driving, or if you have Nav, but what I did was move my heating controls to where the eyeglass cubby is. I moved my cubby to where the heating controls are. I had to cut the back off, and trip the sides of the cubby, but I can fit the Lilliput in there. I'm going to look at how I can fabricate a pull out for the Lilliput. If you get something working, drop me a note. I'll do the same.Originally Posted by tekta

PS. I have a moderately well-functioning manual pull out "prototype." Needs some tweaking then to be placed into a 1-DIN case.
