newbie w/ PSone ??????..UPDATED W/ INSTALL PICS

Hello all, very nice site you all have here, I have to say I am lost on most of this, so I have lots to learn from you all.

I just bought a Sony PSone 5in. LCD from Target, was $64.50 not the $32 deal, I tried to talk them down but no luck.

Anyway, I am going to use this w/ my PS2 in my truck for dvd, cd's, and games. The display was very easy to hook up, (on my desk right now), to the PS2, I just used a 1/8 mini stereo jack w/ 2 rca's on the other end, I get video from the red side and nothing from the white side.

It works real good and has a great picture in my book, but after playing for about 1 hour the display turned kinda blueish, if I unplug the power, ( included a/c power supply), for a few min. it will be normal for a bit. Is this a problem w/ the LCD or does it have something to do w/ my connections, .........I have tried the search function but have found nothing about blued screens.

    Thanks in advance.........John S.

It sounds like a defective LCD to me. If its turning Blue its either losing connection (cold solder) or is grounding out (pinched wire). As long as you didnt open it up I think you should take it back and get a new one while you can.

Good luck with it either way!

Yeah, I think that is what I will do, I have not opened it up as of yet so I should be good to go..
Just to clarify, the screen doesn't blank out, just takes on a funky blueish tint
    Thanks for the quick response..........

Yea I would exchange it too, in my experience with LCDs once you have a small problem it tends to grow into a bigger one slowly...So exchange it while u can!

I have to say, thank you to everyone that has had any contribution to the topics on the PS one LCD's. This was just what I was looking for,(a decent quality, small, and cheap TFT LCD)

I am going to keep an eye out and see if the price drops down anymore at Target anytime soon, if so I will return it and get two at the same price....... Lurking aroung this site the past few days has got me thinking of how I could live w/o a truckputer,......... and I gotta save me up some spendin' money ya know!!!!!!

I do have one more question though,........... I am not all that hip on all your wacky lingo quite yet,..............LOL..... what is OOS, & what is a ccfl

And when I was out at Target getting the first PS one LSD replaced I stopped in at Gamecrazy and bought a 12V to 12V & 7.5V adapter, so I can power up the LCD w/ 7.5V and bypass the 110V to 12V converter inside the PS2 and power it from the 12V side of the adapter......... this sounds good right?

    Updated W/ Install Pics

This is a small photo follow along of my PSone LCD install in my 95 Nissan Hardbody Pickup.

The LCD straight from the box w/ comp. input from PS2....

The guts out of the shell, now I gotta it all in the dash's double DIN.

Here is the 1/4 in. MDF panel I used to mount the LCD w/ the factory holes.

I wanted to mount the screws to the MDF on the inside, for a flat outer panel, but JB Weld was not working for me and I did not trust the bond.
You can see were I mounted the control buttons to the mdf w/ JB weld to work the real button on the board, I did retain this but not the mounting screws.
I used the factory PSone face as a template to lay everything out, including the screws mounting the LCD and board to the MDF,(now thru the front panel..

Here is the LCD and Board mounted,(stacked like factory due to SHORT ribbon cable), w/ a handfull of r/c servo hardware.......

And finally the MDF panel mounted to the dash bezel, the bottom of the panel slides into a groove that was already there and I drilled two small holes, one in each upper corner to bolt the panel to the bezel w/ some more r/c hardware..... BTW, the two holes are the only mods. to the entire dash that cannot be reversed,( like it matters cause as soon as I get the $$$$$$$$ I will be installing a 4 link w/ airbags on all 4 corners....LOL.) and they cannot be seen in the truck unless you get your head down there and look.

I really wanted to center the screen on vert. but due to the amount of space between the bottom of the bezel and the ashtray hole only allowed this postion only, no higher-no lower
The following pics show the rear all mounted up.

I feel so lucky when I see how tight everything fits............LOL

I am still trying to figure out what kinda of finish to put on the MDF, but everything will unbolt so I can finish the panel, (well except for the push buttons.... ..LOL, I will just tape those up.
