video input for me is not important at all. One less cable comeing from out of the monitor. I intend on playing DVDs on the computer, which im not in a big rush to do either.

Here's mine:
VGA - Fully Moterized flip out monitor 7inch or larger with touch screen panel and a bunch of outputs and atleast 2 inputs. Day / Night modes, flip back in on power loss with a reciever built in, and you shouldn't have to have the LCD open to hear what is on the aux input (thats what mine does)

I wouldn't give a rat's crap for RCA video inputs. VGA with USB touch is all that's needed. I vote for 8.4", 4:3 aspect, 1024x768 or 800 x 600, 400+ nit, in a standalone case similar to the Lilliput. That way the people that want to rip the panel out may still do so, and those that want to leave it in the case may also do so.

All screen adjustments must be able to be done with a remote control. The reason for this is because many people get rid of the buttons on the front of the panel.

Anyone interested in a capacitive touchscreen?

Advandage: higer light transmisivity, rugged glass construction

Disadvantage: only use with finger (or capacative stylus), higher cost

my dream screen WAS 10.4" 300nits good color... i finally got the whole thing to work sharp lq10d421 and the controller... i just got done takin my whole dash a part. tommorrow when the sun comes out i am going to hopefully be fibergalssing cant wait.My setup is going to be 10.4" in dash and 12.1 in trunck. when i get more money i am going to have two lilliput in my headrest.So i guess those are kinda my dream screen..

It should have video in. I want to be able to use it with a rear view cam without having to turn the carputer on.

Standalone. But a motorized in-dash/roof housing as an option would be nice

For anyone who wants indash DIN unit, it will not be any larger than 7" wide screen. Standard DIN is 7" wide. There's no way physically to fit an 8" screen in a 7" wide DIN hole unless you're using OLED.

I'm good with the capacitive touchscreen, I like the glass and the brighter display.

On video input, I have no interest in any connection other than to the computer. I'm considering putting a number of cameras on the car and running them all into the computer and then using software to handle how the camera output is displayed. So, I say leave as much of the brains in the computer to make the display cheaper.

PS, I've noticed some people playing fast and loose when they specify horizontal and vertical pixel counts. I just wanted to make it clear that when I said I was looking for 768x1280 or 1600x1024 I am really talking about the shorter dimension being the horizontal - as in a widescreen 16x9 display rotated 90 degrees (except, since it is LCD so just rotating a display usually "works" but isn't optimal, I'd like to see a display designed for that orientation as the default).
