I just had this random idea today - and wanted to see if anyone had ideas on how it might be accomplished.
I have a rather wide area in between the passenger and driver's sides, and I was pondering mounting the LCD on some sort of track that is the width of the dash between the driver's HUD and the passenger's airbag. This way, you could move the LCD back and forth for better viewing.
I guess this would work sort of like track lighting, needing to be able to lock and stop at any point along the track.
Sound appealing to anyone? I looked and didn't see this ever being done...

Well I can see it being done, but not easily. You could probably build one out of various plastic and metal, If not you could rip apart an old track-light system. If the screen is composite video, your life will be easy, youll need four conductive slides, but 15 for a VGA would require a strong will.
I hope the mods don't realize I can still post.
It would be easier and look cooler if you hooked up a telescopic mount to it so it could be moved to ANY angle (>180') and tilted to ANY angle (>180'). It could also be collapsed and pushed back and out of the way when needed.
What about some kind of channel with small wheels that ride in it (attached to the monitor), and somehow have the back open to allow cable(s) to freely move with it. Kind of like the design of a large plotter.
Looking at my HP plotter at work, it is basically the same idea, except a moving inkhead with a flexable cable connecting it.
Just as FYI here - I already have a 7" Lilliput, so I wanted to put it on tracks as is (with whatever mounting stuff needed)
