Simple Question on LCD's

Ok, still working on getting a working LCD screen for a project I am working on. I was wondering, is there actually a difference between a laptop lcd screen and a desktop monitor lcd screen....keep in mind i am talking about the lcd screen itself. I would think it would be the same thing except the inverter, controller, etc would all be packaged inside the desktop lcd. Which brings me to my point, if this is the case, would it be possible to use a controller from a discarded desktop lcd to power a laptop lcd screen. Looking around at some controllers I have noticed they seem to cover quite a few different lcd's...just another idea..anyone got any tips on it?

More hassle than its worth.
For a laptop screen you can buy a card controller for about 2-300, or just say to hellw with it and cut the bulk off of a small desk lcd.
It all depends on how much you're willing to pay, and how badly you want a screen that big.
