Measure it and search on the diferent sizes for screens...
I was wondering what the best LCD touchscreen option was for a GMC Sonoma, I'm thinkg of making it an indash screen and was wondering what a good size would be. I know GM's are generally like aDouble Dinn size. I'll also be experimenting with customizing the dash to custom fit the screen in the dash but don't want to alter the controls for the A/C. Just the area where the Headunit used to be.

You left the question very broad.
You call me captain obvious, which I think is funny as hell BTW, but you expected us to assume a little too much. Don't you think?
I agree w/ Defiler... what are some more specifics on this, vehicle. Are your windows tinted? Do you plan on tinting them anytime soon, what are you going to use the PC for? I ask about the tinting for the reason of which screen lilliput, xenarc or whatever you, you'll want to use the brightest (lilliput I think) for a car that has less tint and will be more likely to have light shining on the screen. If you have little light that will affect the screen you can go w/ a Xenarc (don't quote me I could be wrong) Also if you have a lot of room you could go w/ a larger screen like a 10.4.
So a little more info would be great and we'll be happy to help you. Also make sure to use the or too, maybe somebody here has the same vehicle as you and you can see what type of system they are running!!
New CarPC on the way again I think. I miss my old one!!!
oh didn't realize i didn't mention the vehicle year, it's a 2003 GMC Sonoma SLS 4wd extended cab. I'm building the carPC primarily for all my audio needs and maybe DVD too. It'll expand as I o I'm sure. But for now it'll just be FM Radio and MP3's. I don't have the windows tinted yet, but I'm considering it along with alot of things that I plan on altering in my truck. I don't want a huge 10" screen, but something I could easily fit into the din, i think it's a 1.5 now that I've looked at it some more. I haven't taken n e measurements because I plan on custom fitting the screen to a more factory look. Altering the dash just some to fit around it. I was just wondering would would be the closest fit if anyone has done so so far and which one's the recommend most for a truck use.
I'm pretty sure the dash in the Sonoma's are exactly like my Blazer. If so, This is something to look at. It's not mine, but someone had a good idea that I'd like to adopt. The only problem for you is the screen is a 10.4".
Man, is it just the poor quality of that pic or is that a poor fab job?Originally Posted by SinnerG
Either way, I have a 2001 S-10 and they are not cool for putting a flush mount LCD in the dash. The dash is horribly shaped and fitted (ie. someone with a screwdriver could easily pry that bezel off and steal the LCD pretty easily - I know this from experience with my radio). If you have the gen. 2 sonoma (older dash), that might be a little better to work with. With the newer style dash, you have to relocate stuff too so it is a pain.

Yea I don't think I wan't a Big Ole honkin' 10.4" incher in my truck n e ways.....I'm looking for something more subtle, and just about the size of the face of a General Motors Factory Issue Head Unit...prolly round a 6" or 7" I'm thinking. Also I noticed people recommend alot of smaller motherboards for smaller storage. I'm thinking if you plan on making your computer do alot of things, wouldn't it be better to have a normal sized motherboard so you can have a couple of PCI slots in case you want to do more? Like a high quality Sound Card, an FM Radio card (or CB Radio) or anything else additional to use? To me it makes a lil since to have a regular board right? I'll have the space Cause I'll probably end up making a box for 2 sub's in the extended cab part of my truck n e how. Most likely will make a slide out portion in the center to remove if work needs to be done to it...and also have the CD-RW/DVD Combo drive eject in the center of the Box too. Easy access from front seat. Well just some Ideas, I was just looking if anyone had good ideas so I don't have to alter too much in my dash. I don't want a fold-out LCD or motorized one...it's just easier to have somehting flush mounted in my opinion
I think it's din and a half, i think something with the in dash casing from digitalww would fit best.
