    Alternative display options??

i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas reguarding ways of displaying text other than lcd. my goal is to have a hard drive based mp3 player for my car, but being 16 i don't have the money for an lcd and all the good stuff. idealy, i would use a mini-itx board with a simple remote and/or mic (voice control) for input and an LED or somthing for displaying text. this way i could navigate through playlists or folders or whatever to select music. i am currently researching LED and small monochrome LCD (i think they exist??) displays and software to run them, or if need be, i can write for them myself. i was wondering if there is any existing software for this purpose, and any reccomendations for displays. i am proficent in visual basic 6 and C++ (and MFC), and i know a some Java, i can learn more if need be. thanks for your time.

    Yup buy a HD44780 controlled LCD ( 4x20 )
    or a Noritake VFD 800

    and download http://markuszehnder.ch/projects/lcdplugin/

it is a winamp plugin and works great !!!
    spectrum analyser etc.
    also menu for playlists

    ENJOY!!!

P.S.: I'm also 16 and I had this plugin running for 2 years and now I'm starting a carputer project with a local shop. NEW EXPERIENCES !!!
