I am looking to purchase an 7" LCD screen that is motorised. But the problem is, i live in a high theft area. So i want to know if any one has come up with any wayz of hiding the In-Dash LCD so that it cant be seen by possible theives???

Somewhere I have seen a really sweet idea, here I think, but not sure.... Anyhow the guy basically took the face of his old head unit and made it so it would sit in the dash over the screen. Basically he cut off the face of the radio and glued in the bottons and attached it to a flat board...

I know there is pictures somewhere on the net, maybe even on this forum. Just can't remember where.... But it was a neat idea and very well done.

Or better yet, you could move....

get a better insurance, or a crapier car

Sorry - had to make the joke.

this said, if you are using a motorized one, won't it be already hidden?

You might be thinking of Mpro's install. He even has half a tape sticking out He just has his screen hard-mounted in the dash in a double DIN opening. I'm not sure how the idea would translate to a motorized screen.

    Saw this

    I saw this:

Basically the guy has it come up out of his dash... I thought it was a good idea, but wouldnt have that kind of space in my dash to accomodate for a 7" screen. So that is why i am looking for in-dash. But i am thinking of something similar... Something like a lid to cover it up...

But it would mean i would have to mount the in-dash unit a few centimeters back from the front. Which could cause opening issues.

Here's the sure fire way... make it easy to disconnect, and take it out of the car with you. I know that's not as practical as we all may want, but it'll keep it from getting stolen. I think you gotta think about what's important here. Broken window/door lock, and a missing screen/computer/stereo or a nice setup.

I am thinking i will go with a custom fibre glass mold. With a lid kind of design in place. Cause in my current car (1992 Mazda 626) i have a double din space. So there is enough room to fit in most 7" LCD screens. However i am reluctant to remove the casing from a Xenarc Screen or something similar, basically due to its price.

So i am thinking of making a lid that will flip down, exposing the screen and when i leave, just flip it back up. Once down, it will rest on my dash. And when it is up it will be held in place with magnets. That way, it wont be noticable from outside that a screen is behind it.

A possible stupid but possible solution is a w few pieces of paper or a 8x11 evelope placed over the screen. Do it such a way that it doesn't look like you are trying to cover anything up, just placed there. This method works beter if the lcd is lower to teh gearbox area.

along the same lines as the envelope...you could also keep an extra sweatshirt in the car and throw that over the screen
    rebuilding carpc... kinda..
