TM-701L Problem Issue - Screen goes dead (ARMEN please read)

Not sure what the cause of this could be...

Sometimes when I start my car the screen goes blank (black) and shows nothing, yet stays lit. I dont get the blue "no signal" screen, it just stays black. I hear my carputer boot up, yet the screen stays black. At first i figured it was my carputer, but after I disconnected the carputer to see if I would get the No Signal screen back, it stayed the same, black, but LIT.

I came back outside and started the car, and it was back to normal, functioning properly. Its been going back and forth. Any ideas why this would happen?

    Thanks ahead of time...

bump! a week and no replies - Armen you have any ideas? It happened again yesterday, it took about 3 hours of driving and then all of the sudden the blue no signal screen popped back on, and I was able to switch my carputer on.

Im beginning more and more to think its a defective unit, but maybe I'm doing something wrong? Do these units need to heat up in the cold?

    thanks

It sounds like a loose connection. If you can send it back to me then I will fix it. You can also take a look at it yourself. Open the back cover to get to the controller and take a look at this ribbon cable. Check the connectors on both ends of the cable. Then reassemble it and test it. If the problem doesn't go away then definitely send the monitor back to me.

    Let me know.
    Thanks,
    Armen

its most probably low voltage going into the display. Check it. or it can be overheating. I have had mine suffer both these problems, and by upgrading the wiring to it, and keeping it cool, problems went away. Now happy with my TM-701

check the flat cable going from the screen to the housing...

the cable could be damaged after some time

a member of carmedia had exactly the same problem (fixed now)

    check here:

Well its definitely not overheating, its cold here and the screen doesn't work even when its dead cold.

The voltage thing could be the problem, I am currently looking into upgrading all the gauges of my wiring in my engine bay.

I already sent it back. I checked the connections, and all the wiring. this is a brand new unit, so nothing should be worn yet. I hope Armen can resolve the issue without it coming back the same way. Because its tempermental, sometimes it'll just pop on for 3 hours and then the next day it wont work at all, and I can't figure out what it is. Hopefully he will see this!

Thanks so much for the input though guys. I love this forum

I bet it's low voltage. My screen flickers when I first power up my car. Sometimes the screen won't even turn on until my car has been charged fully. I would also check the voltage that is going to your screen with a multimeter.

even after I have my car run (at high RPMs) and then restart the screen, no go. ive had voltage problems in the past so im not ruling it out compeltely.
