I have an 03 GTI and I would like to put some kind of touch screen in the double din slot. I have seen some of the Suburu people on this board that put their entire setup behind the screen inside the slot. There was a thread a couple days ago where they were putting together a group buy for a case designed for this purpose. Do you suppose we could use something like this in our GTI's? Are they about the same size?

    Here is the thread:

VWTronics, is that an indash fold away screen like the one from digitalWW, or did you install it over the empty DIN above the radio?

I couldn't quite tell from the pictures.

I'm planning on installing an in-dash digitalWW fold away LCD in the empty DIN above my radio. I'm just wondering if anyone can confirm that it fits. I have a 2000 Jetta by the way.

    It's the fold away.

As to fit.... no problems. The only thing I would have to advise you about installing the LCD, is when looking at the back of the in dash LCD case, have the USB/LCD cables exit in the upper left corner. You will have a stupid plastic trim that will be in you way...... You will also have to figgure out how to hold the case in place (When you get there let me know)

Thanks for the info VWTronics. I don't know when I am getting my in-dash unit, cause digitalWW doesn't reply to voice mail or email. But I will let you know how I get it installed.

Curious, fellow dubber here (mkiv jetta) ~

    from www.dashpc.com

I believe that is the fitting for his 6.4 inch moniter - would a 7 inch lilliput have problems clearing in the same manner?

    ive looked into it
some trimming needs to be done to the rack (only a few bucks from the dealer), but it will work

but the glare down there is horrible

    VWTronics

to hold the unit in place what i did was bend the brackets that come with the unit in a Z manner

then when i only screwed one screw in and had the bar at an angle

then took a lighter to the metal and plastic a little to help it dig into the plastic

if youd like i could take apart the dash and show you some pictures

Does anyone know how to remove the "cubby" above the stereo in the mkIV VWs? My Bentley manual shows how to remove the stereo, and climate controls, but not the "cubby" insert...

Found the info on VWVortex, regarding putting the cubby back in:

"if your car has the single din unit and radio is on the bottom of the hole you will have to remove the radio to get it back in there. however to save you self some time just trim off the notches on the bottom and slide the pocket back in there. it will lock into place with the clip on the back of the pocket. good luck"
