don't connect it up to a 12v battery charger. the charger is putting out much more voltage than 12v to charge a battery. it's also puttin out somewhere between 2 and 6 amps. and since ur display thingy shouldn't take much power at all, the battery charger won't have much of a load on it, and the voltage won't reduce very much. ur display can probably take 12v +-5%. try running it off of a computer supply as it regulates 12v regardless of what load is on it. or, with your engine off in the car, hook it up to the cigarette lighter outlet. just don't turn the engine on or else u'll probably be gettin voltage close or over 14V through the lighter socket.

Yep... I am still learning, I had it set to two amps and figured it would be putting out 12v of power... oh well, at least it was only a $20 mistake.

As for hooking the screen to a computer... I am not sure how the quality would be with mediacar, etc... I tried testing it but I could not get a video signal from my ezgo's composite out.... will have to try messing with some settings today. I think you will be able to see it alright... imo... but not positive. I was able to read the opening credits of a movie without a big problem. It will all depend on how close you will be mounting the lcd to the viewer, too

By the way, I mounted my LCD in my gauges yesterday, looks really good so far, I'll post pics tonight!

Is there a way to hook these up to vga with some sort of small adaptor, it would need to be fairly small for my application (see this thread for details)

i would but i don't know what output these have but from the sounds of what they are used for it is component?

i am looking for the smallest possible way to convert component? to vga so that i can build this into a small interface that can be used with any computer. any help would be very much welcome (i don't have one yet cause i am out of country but my bud is picking me up two)

Well... I wanted to get it fully running today, but I didn't have time to hook everything up again. Until then, here are pics of it mounted in there... bottom pic shows it with the gauge bezel over it... not sure how I'm going to handle the trimming/adding to make it look stock

When I had it hooked up to my TV. I was watching foxnews channel and I was able to read the ticker on the bottom of the screen very easily. I wouldnt suggest trying to read something that small while driving. But it shouldnt be to hard to read about a 10 word sentence on the thing while driving.

When this thread first started, I went to Radio Shack to try out composite video from my Archos AV320 on a 2.5" screen before heading to CompUSA. I tried out their 2.5 LCD Pocket TV with Active-Matrix Screen (http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=16%2D3064). I couldn't really read the onscreen text very well, certainly not well enough to control the Archos while driving (IMO). MPEG video was fine, though. Their 3 TFT/LCD Pocket TV (http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=16%2D3065)was better, but not good enough to read while driving (IMO).

I'd be interested in seeing some pics of the XBox LCD with MediaCar running.
